  • M Shahrukh Khan's late heroics (33 not out off 15 balls), including a last-ball six, helped Tamil Nadu defend their Syed Mushtaq Trophy title, beating Karnataka by four wickets in a humdinger final of the 2021/22 edition at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
  • It was also the second consecutive season Khan hit the winning runs to clinch the trophy.

Lewis Hamilton wins in Qatar with Max Verstappen second

  • Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton won the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix for Mercedes to cut Max Verstappen's overall Formula One lead to eight points with two races remaining.
  • Red Bull's Verstappen was second, after starting seventh following a five-place grid drop for failing to respect warning flags in Saturday's qualifying, but took a bonus point for fastest lap.
  • Double world champion Fernando Alonso was third for Renault-owned Alpine, the 40-year-old Spaniard's first podium finish since 2014.

Alexander Zverev Beats Daniil Medvedev

  • Audacious swinging volley winners. Serve-and-volleying. An ace out wide on his first match point — with his second serve. 
  • Alexander Zverev showed off new, more aggressive, tactics in a dominant 6-4, 6-4 win over second-ranked Daniil Medvedev to lift the trophy at the ATP Finals for the second time.
  • A day after beating top-ranked Novak Djokovic over three sets in the semifinals, Zverev raised his game to a new dimension.

Indonesia Masters: Kento Momota Clinches Men's Singles Title

  • World No. 1 Japan's Kento Momota clinched the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament men's singles title after beating Denmark's Anders Antonsen in the final.
  • He dismissed Antonsen with his typical high-octane game and registered a convincing 21-17, 21-11 victory in a 49-minute encounter.
  • In the women's singles final, Japan's Akane Yamaguchi, who had beaten India's P. V. Sindhu in the semi-final, was defeated by An Se-Young. The South Korean shuttler, seeded four, won 21-17, 21-19 in a thrilling contest.

Arif Khan Qualifies for Beijing Winter Olympics Next Year

  • Jammu and Kashmir alpine skier Arif Mohammed Khan has qualified for the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing.
  • Khan, who hails from North Kashmir, booked the Winter Games ticket in an Olympic qualifier alpine skiing event in Dubai. He has earlier represented the country in many international events, including World Championships.
  • The Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20.

Indonesia Masters: P. V. Sindhu into Semis of Womens' Single

  • Two-time Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of the women's singles at the Indonesia Masters 2021.
  • P. V. Sindhu overwhelmed Turkey's Neslihan Yigit 21-13, 21-10 in a 35-minute encounter.
  • The reigning world champion will now take on either Akane Yamaguchi of Japan or Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong in the semi-finals.

BWF Gives Prakash Padukone Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone was selected for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for 2021 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council. The former world No. 1 has already been honoured with the Badminton Association of India's (BAI) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Padukone is the first-ever Indian to win a medal at World Championships in the 1983 Copenhagen tournament.

Asian Archery Championships: Jyothi Surekha Wins Gold

  • India's top-ranked compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam won the gold medal in the women's individual compound category at the ongoing Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
  • In a nerve-wracking final, Jyothi Surekha defeated top seed and former world champion Oh Yoohyun 146-145.
  • This is Jyothi Surekha's second Asian Championship individual gold medal.

Guptill Surpasses Kohli to Become Leading Run-getter in T20s

  • New Zealand opener Martin Guptill surpassed Indian star Virat Kohli to become the leading run-getter in T20 Internationals.
  • Guptill surpassed Kohli during the second T20 match of the three-match series in November 2021.
  • Guptill has 3248 runs to his name compared to Kohli's 3227. Guptill averages a little over 30 while Kohli is way ahead of him on that front with an average of 52. Rohit Sharma is third in the leading run-getters' standings with more than 3000 runs.

Former S. African Batsman AB de Villiers Retires from All Forms of Cricket

  • Former South African batter AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
  • De Villiers last played for South Africa in April 2018 when the Proteas locked horns with Australia at Johannesburg.
  • De Villiers last game in the limited-overs format for South Africa came in February 2018, against India.
  • De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for South Africa. The former South African batter featured in 340 T20 games for different teams across the globe.

P. V. Sindhu Reaches Quarter-finals of Indonesia Masters Badminton Tournament

  • India's P. V. Sindhu reached the women's singles quarter-finals of the 2021 Indonesia Masters badminton tournament, beating Spain's Clara Azurmendi in three sets.
  • In the quarter-finals, Sindhu will take on Neslihan Yigit of Turkey, who defeated Marina Ulitina of Ukraine.
  • Japan's top seed Akane Yamaguchi and Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong, the fifth seed here, too advanced to the quarter-finals.

SBI and Jamshedpur Football Club Enter into a Partnership for Promoting Football in the Country

  • State Bank of India (SBI) entered into a strategic partnership with Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC) with an aim to support and promote Indian football. With this partnership, SBI will be one of the principal sponsors of the JFC. The bank signed a landmark agreement with the JFC – making this a first major endeavour by SBI in the game of football.
