India's Jhilli Dalabehera clinches gold medal at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

  • Indian weightlifter Jhilli Dalabehera has won the gold medal in the women's 49kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
  • The official Twitter handle of Sports Authority of India said, Dalabehera lifted the total weight of 167kg with 73kg in snatch and 94kg in clean and jerk to win the yellow metal in the 49kg category.
  • Sanket Mahadev Sargar clinched the gold medal in the men's 55kg snatch category. He lifted the weight of 113kg. With this lift, Sargar created the new snatch national record.
  • The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2021 is currently being held concurrently in Tashkent along with World Weightlifting Championships 2021 from December 7 to 17. India, being a Commonwealth nation is competing in both.

Rohit Becomes New White-ball Captain

  • Virat Kohli was removed as India's ODI captain with the national selection committee making Rohit Sharma the sole white-ball leader of the team till the 2023 50-over World Cup.
  • In another significant development, Ajinkya Rahane was removed from Test vice-captaincy, a position which was also given to Rohit.

Australia Announces Diplomatic Boycott of Beijing Winter Olympics

  • Australia joined the US in announcing a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics over concerns about human rights abuses in China.
  • This came a few days after the Biden administration announced the decision not to send an official US delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Pat Cummins Becomes 1st Captain to get 5-wicket Haul in Ashes since 1982

  • Australia skipper Pat Cummins became the first captain to take a five-wicket haul in an Ashes Test since 1982.
  • Cummins achieved this feat on Day 1 of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, Brisbane. In 1982, England pacer Bob Willis was the first skipper to scalp five wickets in the Ashes Test.

  •  Lewis Hamilton won a crazy, twice-halted Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to send the Formula One world championship into a winner-takes-all final showdown with the Mercedes driver and Red Bull's Max Verstappen level on points.
  • On a chaotic night of soaring emotions in Jeddah, the inaugural race in the Gulf kingdom took almost as many twists and turns as an already astonishing and enthralling rollercoaster season.
  • There were crashes, safety cars, red flags, claims of dirty driving after Hamilton hit the back of Verstappen's suddenly slowing car, penalties, collisions and extraordinary exchanges between race director Michael Masi and the top two teams.
  • Seven-times world champion Hamilton took the bonus point for fastest lap to level with Verstappen on 369.5 points after 21 races.

Ajaz Patel Made History

  •  New Zealand's Mumbai-born spinner, Ajaz Patel made history by taking all ten Indian wickets in the first innings of the second Test at Wankhede Stadium.
  • Such is the enormity of Patel's feat that only two bowlers had done it before him in 144 years of Test cricket.
  • The former India captain, welcoming the 33-year-old to the exclusive club, wrote in a Twitter post: "Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match."

Russian Tennis Federation Clinches Davis Cup Finals Title

  • Daniil Medvedev delivered once again to guide the Russian Tennis Federation to the Davis Cup Finals title against Croatia in Madrid.
  • The World No. 2, who did not drop a set at the tournament, overcame Marin Cilic 7-6(7), 6-2 in 89 minutes to secure victory for the Russian Tennis Federation.
  • Medvedev was strong on serve, firing eight aces and winning 87 per cent (34/39) of points behind his first delivery. It is the third time the Russian Tennis Federation has won the Davis Cup, also triumphing in 2002 and 2006.

Ajaz Patel Becomes Third Bowler to Take 10 Wickets in a Test Innings

  • Mumbai-born New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel became third bowler in Test cricket to take 10 wickets in an innings.
  • He achieved the feat against India in the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
  • Patel returned with figures of 10-119.
  • Earlier, Australia's Jim Laker was the first cricketer to scalp 10 wickets in a Test innings in 1956 and that was followed by India's Anil Kumble in 1999 against Pakistan.
