CWG 2022: Shushila Devi Settles for Silver, Vijay Yadav Wins Bronze in Judo
Shushila Devi Likmabam clinched India's seventh medal and the first outside weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham after losing to Michaela Whitebooi of South Africa in the women's 48kg final in Judo.
This is her second medal at the Commonwealth Games after she won silver at the Glasgow in 2014.
Vijay claimed the bronze medal in the men's 60 Kg Judo event.
Lawn Bowls: Indian Women Ensure Historic First CWG Medal in 'Fours' Format
India lawn bowls team assured itself a historic first ever Commonwealth Games medal after defeating New Zealand 16-13 in the semi-finals of the women's fours event.
This will be India's maiden final appearance in the women's fours format of the competition.
The women's fours team comprising Lovely Choubey (lead), Pinki (second), Nayanmoni Saikia (third) and Rupa Rani Tirkey (skip) will face South Africa in the gold medal clash.
Mairaj Ahmad Khan Win Gold in Each Shooting Meet
Olympian and World Cup gold medallist Mairaj Ahmad Khan asserted his class yet again as he accelerated to a smart finish in grabbing the skeet gold in the Digvijay Singh shotgun championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad.
Mairaj beat Arjun Thakur 35-30 for the gold, as had missed only one bird in the medal round.

Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Sanket Sargar wins Silver
India's Sanket Sargar scripted history, by becoming the first athlete from India to win a medal at Commonwealth Games 2022. He won a silver medal in the men's 55kg weightlifting event with a total of 248kg (113kg in snatch, 135 in clean and jerk) to finish behind Malaysia's Aniq Mohamad, who took gold with a total of 249 kg (107kg in snatch, 142kg in clean and jerk).
England Beats Germany in Women's Euro 2022
England created history by winning their first major women's tournament in a dramatic Euro 2022 final against old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley.
Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal on a rebound in the second half of extra time after Germany failed to clear a corner. The game had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes at Wembley Stadium, London.
The tournament-record crowd of more than 87,000 underlined the growth of women's soccer in Europe since the last time England and Germany played for a continental title 13 years ago.
Reliance Joins Olympic Body as Principal Partner
Reliance Industries Ltd would support the athletes in major multi-sport events as part of a long-term partnership with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
Reliance and IOA entered into a long-term partnership under which the conglomerate run by billionaire Mukesh Ambani will help sports federations and athletes prepare for events, such as Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The partnership aims to elevate the performances of Indian athletes, support the national sports federations and build the credentials of India as a global sporting nation, with an aspiration to host the Olympic Games in the future.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games as the teen sensation shattered two CWG weightlifting records.
The reigning Youth Olympic champion first bettered the snatch mark with a successful 140kg attempt and then lifted 160kg in clean and jerk to take his aggregate to 300kg, which is a new Games record in the men's 67kg competition.
Commonwealth Games 2022: Mirabai Chanu Wins India's First Gold Medal
Daughter of India, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the Women's 49Kg weightlifting category. She aggregated a total of 201kg (88kg+113kg) to stamp her authority in the competition and achieve a Commonwealth Games record in the process. The silver went to Mauritius' Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa (172kg) and the bronze to Canada's Hannah Kaminski (171 kg).
Last year, Chanu won a silver medal in the 49kg category of women's weightlifting event at the Tokyo Olympics. And with that, she became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal in Olympics. Chanu also became the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari bagged bronze in the 69kg category at the 2000 Sydney Games when the weightlifting arena was opened to women for the first time.

Four-time Champion Sebastian Vettel to Retire from Formula 1 at the End of the 2022 Season
Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel will retire at the end of the 2022 season, he announced. The German won four successive titles from 2010 to 2013. His 53 Grand Prix victories place him third on the all-time list behind Lewis Hamilton (103) and Michael Schumacher (91). Vettel joined Aston Martin last season after six years at Ferrari, with whom he twice finished runner-up for the world title to Hamilton in 2017 and 2018. He came 12th in 2021 with his new team after achieving just one podium finish. Vettel is 14th in the standings this season.

Martin Guptill Leapfrogs Rohit Sharma to Become Highest Run-getter in T20Is
New Zealand opener Martin Guptill went past India captain Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer in T20 Internationals, during the first game against Scotland.
The talismanic batter achieved the milestone en route his 31-ball 40.
During the course of his innings, Guptill surpassed Rohit, who had become the highest run-scorer in T20Is (3,379) earlier this year (2022).
Guptill now has 3,399 runs in T20Is, 20 ahead of the India skipper.
Apart from Rohit, Guptill is closely followed by former India captain Virat Kohli (3,308), Ireland's ODI skipper Paul Stirling (2,894), and Australian captain Aaron Finch, who is fifth in the list with 2,855 runs.

England's Leicester Cricket Ground Named after Sunil Gavaskar
England's Leicester Cricket Ground was named after India's legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar. The Leicester Cricket Ground, the ownership of which lies with Bharat Sports and Cricket Club, decided to name the ground after Gavaskar to acknowledge his immense contribution to uplifting Indian Cricket to a certain height.
There has been a ground already named after Sunil Gavaskar in the Kentucky area of the United States of America (USA) and there is another ground going through its finishing touches in the Zanzibar area of the African nation Tanzania which is also named after the former Indian opener.
ICC Awards Membership Status to Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Cote D'Ivoire
The ICC awarded membership status to three countries during the ICC Annual Conference in Birmingham.
Cambodia and Uzbekistan from Asia, and Cote D'Ivoire from Africa, were all awarded Associate membership status, taking ICC's total members to 108 countries, including 96 Associates.
The two Asian teams took the total count of Asian countries to 25 while Cote D'Ivoire was the 21st country from Africa.
A major criteria to gain ICC Membership is detailed in 'Participation and domestic structures' of Clause 2.1 (d) of the ICC Membership Criteria. This includes having in place a proper structure with minimum team requirements for 50-over and 20-over tournaments, aside from clear junior and women's pathways.
