Polish Tennis Star Iga Swiatek Wins Maiden WTA Player of Year Award
Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek was chosen for the player of the year award by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for the first time after her incredible run in 2022 that also saw her get to the summit of women's singles ranking. Swiatek, who was named Newcomer of the Year in 2020, had an exceptional season in 2022, leading the way in terms of finals appearances, awards won and matches won. She was crowned winner at eight tournaments, including six in a row and a 37-match winning streak.
Among the eigh championships were two Grand Slams, at Roland Garros and the US Open, as well as WTA 1000 titles at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open (Doha), the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells), the Miami Open presented by Ita, Internazionali BNL d'Italia (Rome), and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Stuttgart). Swiatek won 67 matches this season in total as per the WTA Tour website.

Tata Steel Signs MoU with Hockey India to Become Official partner of WC
Tata Steel Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hockey India to become an official partner of the FIH Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela.
The 15th edition of the Hockey Men's World Cup will take place in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela from January 13 to January 29, 2023.
The FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela will be the fourth time that India will be hosting the prestigious tournament after having played hosts in 1982 in Bombay, 2010 in New Delhi, and 2018 in Odisha.
Messi Announces Retirement after Qatar FIFA 2022

Ferrari Appoint Frederic Vasseur as Formula One Team Boss
Ferrari appointed Frenchman Frederic Vasseur as Formula One team principal and General Manager, replacing Mattia Binotto whose resignation was announced last month.
Vasseur's departure from Swiss-based Sauber, which runs the Alfa Romeo team, had been announced earlier. Ferrari said he would join them on January 9.
Vasseur and his compatriot Nicolas Todt, son of Jean and manager of Ferrari's Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, are close and founded the junior series ART racing team together.

She became the second Pakistani cricketer after Mohammad Rizwan (September) to win this award.

India qualified for the semi-finals of the FIH Hockey Women's Nations Cup in Valencia, Spain. Along with India, Spain has also qualified for the semi-finals. While India pulled out a close 2-1 win over Japan, Spain registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Korea.
Both teams qualified for the semi-finals as their six points could be matched or bettered by two other teams in their pools.

Air Warrior Cpl Amar Singh Devandar bagged the sixth position in 24 hours Ultra Marathon organized by the Chinese Taipai Association by covering a distance of 204.47 km. He covered 510 laps (400 m each) in the stadium in 24 hours.
The 24 hours Ultra Marathon was organised by Chinese Taipai Association of Ultra runners for 2022 at Soochow University, Taiwan. Cpl Amar Singh Devanda represented India in the event. A total of 31 runners comprising 21 males and 10 females from 5 countries participated in the event.
During Asia-Oceania 24 Hrs Championship 2022 held at Bengaluru, Cpl Amar covered 257.618 Km on July 3, 2022 and created a new national record. The Indian team led by him stood first in the championship.

Indian Batter Ishan Kishan Hits Fastest ODI Double Hundred off 126 Balls
India batter Ishan Kishan smashed the fastest ODI double century in 126 balls against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a 150 off boundaries alone, with 24 fours and 10 sixes all around the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Kishan was dislodged on 210 off 131 balls.
Kishan also became the fourth ODI double-centurion Indian after Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar and the seventh batsman overall to achieve the feat, along with Gayle, Martin Guptill and Fakhar Zaman. Kishan added 290 for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who made his 44th ODI hundred, and his first in the format since August 2019. The Kishan-Kohli stand was India's third-highest partnership in ODIs, and the seventh-highest ever in the format.
