Rajya Sabha Passes Dam Safety Bill

  • The Rajya Sabha passed a bill that seeks to set up an institutional mechanism for the safety of specified dams in the country.
  • The Dam Safety Bill, 2019 was passed by the Lok Sabha in August 2019. The Rajya Sabha passed the bill with two official amendments through a voice vote. One of the amendments relates to the change in the year mentioned in the bill title from 2019 to 2021.
  • The bill will now go back to the Lok Sabha as the Rajya Sabha has made amendments to it.
  • The proposed legislation provides for surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of the specified dams for the prevention of dam failure-related disasters. It provides for an institutional mechanism to ensure a safe functioning of the dams.

Govt. Approves Continuation of Scheme for Investment Promotion

  • The government approved the continuation of the Scheme for Investment Promotion (SIP) for five years (2021-26) with a financial outlay of Rs. 970 crore.
  • The scheme comprises a number of components and activities for the promotion of investment into the country; enhancing international co-operation for promoting FDI and capacity building.
  • To increase the investment inflow, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been undertaking various initiatives and reforms such as the launching of Make in India, setting up of project development cells, creating a GIS-based Industrial Information System and National Investment Clearance Cell.

Bill Passed to Relax norms for Infra Requirement of Bihar pvt Varsities

  • The Bihar assembly introduced and passed an amendment Bill that seeks to relax norms for meeting infrastructure requirements of private universities in the state.
  • The Bihar Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2021 proposes that such institutes will be allowed to function from makeshift venues, provided they meet all other conditions.
  • Besides, if they are unable to develop the prescribed built up area within the stipulated period of two years, they will get another two years to complete it.

Parliament Passes Bill to Repeal Three Farm Laws

  • Parliament passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, to repeal the three contentious agri laws against which farmers have been protesting for over a year, with its passage in Rajya Sabha.
  • Lok Sabha also passed the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, within minutes of its introduction in the Lower House.

Indian Oil, BPCL and HPCL Launch Model Retail Outlet Scheme

  • Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited announced the launch of Model Retail Outlet Scheme and a Digital Customer Feedback Program called Darpan@petrolpump. Three oil PSUs have joined hands to launch Model Retail Outlets to enhance service standards and amenities, across their networks, which serve over 6 Crore consumers every day.
  • The initiative was inaugurated by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, in the august presence of Shri Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas & Labour and Employment, Govt. of India and Shri Tarun Kapoor Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India.

Nirmala Sitharaman launched Tejasvini & Hausala schemes

  • Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman launched two schemes named 'Tejasvini & Hausala schemes' of J&K Bank for girls. Under 18-35 years of age to start their businesses and 'Shikhar & Shikara' schemes of Punjab National Bank (PNB) for development of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
  • Tejaswini Scheme is in the course of the credit score outreach programme in Jammu. The scheme goals to offer monetary help as much as Rs. 5 lakh to younger ladies for establishing gainful self-employment ventures, suited to their expertise, aptitude & native situations. Tejasvini scheme focuses on offering monetary help of Rs. 5 lakh to ladies between 18-35 years for beginning their enterprise.
  • Shikhar scheme focuses on meeting credit requirements up to INR 2 crore for the hotel, tour & tourism industry.
  • 'Shikara' which goals to supply finance for the acquisition of the latest shikara and restore & upkeep of shikara and houseboats by means of collateral-free time period loans with handy reimbursement beneath EMI mode in seven years. Shikara scheme will prove credit up to INR 15 lakh for purchase/repair of Shikaras is provided in Kashmir valley.
