NIPER Bill passed

Parliament passed the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill to accord the status of 'institute of national importance' to six more institutes of pharmaceutical education and research, and also set up an advisory council for them. Rajya Sabha passed the Bill unanimously by a voice vote.
The Bill seeks to give the coveted 'institute of national importance' status to pharmaceutical education and research institutes – NIPERs – situated in Ahmedabad, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati and Raebareli.
The Bill also envisages establishment of a Council, a central body, to coordinate the activities of all the institutes to ensure coordinated development of pharmaceutical education and research and maintenance of standards.

The Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021 for consideration and passing.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move the Bill to further amend the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Rajya Sabha Passes Bill for Regulation of Practice and Process of Surrogacy

The parliament passed a bill to regulate and supervise assisted reproductive technology clinics.
The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2021, which was passed by Lok Sabha on December 1, got the approval of Rajya Sabha with a voice vote.
The Upper House also passed The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2020 with amendments. The proposed bill was earlier passed by Lok Sabha, but Rajya Sabha had referred it to a Select Committee. It will now go back to Lok Sabha for approval.

Cabinet Nod to Extension of Rural Housing Scheme

The Union Cabinet approved the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Rural) for another three years to provide financial assistance for the construction of the remaining 155.75 lakh houses under the scheme.
The continuation of the scheme till March 2024 would ensure that the remaining 155.75 lakh households within the overall target of 2.95 crore houses would be provided assistance for construction of pucca houses with basic amenities to achieve the objective of 'housing for all' in rural areas.

SRESHTA Scheme

The Centre has launched SRESHTA scheme for socio-economic upliftment and overall development of Scheduled Castes students by providing quality residential education to meritorious students in reputed private schools.
According to Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar the Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SRESHTA) scheme will enable meritorious SC students to have a better future and aid in controlling dropout rates of students from classes 9 to 12.

Lok Sabha Passes Bill for Pharmaceutical Education Institutes

A bill to declare six institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research as institutes of national importance and to provide for a council to ensure the development of pharmaceutical education and research was passed in Lok Sabha on 6th December, 2021.
The bill seeks to amend the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Act, 1998 under which NIPER at Mohali in Punjab was declared an institute of national importance.

Goa CM Launches Electricity Mobility Promotion Policy

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched Goa Electricity Mobility Promotion Policy 2021 to promote usage of e-vehicles.
He launched the policy at the 'Round Table to Promote Electric Mobility' event organised by the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The main objective to launch the policy is to promote use of battery-driven vehicles and create jobs for the people of the state.

Centre to Launch Scheme for Upliftment of SC Students

The Centre is set to launch the Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SRESHTA) scheme for the upliftment and development of scheduled castes (SC) students.
The announcement was made by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar. The scheme will focus on the socio-economics upliftment and overall development of the Scheduled Caste students by providing quality residential education to meritorious Scheduled Caste students in reputed private schools, having residential facility.
