President Droupadi Murmu Approves these Punjab, Telangana Bills
A Punjab bill which aims at giving property rights to more than 11,200 tenants occupying over 4,000 acres of land after paying due compensation received presidential assent.
President Droupadi Murmu also gave her assent to a Telangana bill which allows imposition of fine on people standing surety for securing bail in cases of grave offences if he or she fails to produce the accused on the date fixed by the court.
The Punjab Bhondedar, Butemar, Dohlidar, Insar Miadi, Mukarraridar, Mundhimar, Panahi Qadeem, Saunjidar, or Taraddadkar (Vesting of Proprietary Rights) Bill, 2020 was passed by the Punjab assembly when the Congress government was in power in 2020.
The legislation was later approved by the Aam Aadmi Party government.
The Code of Criminal Procedure (Telangana Amendment) Bill, 2020 was introduced by the K. Chandrashekhar Rao government.
The amendment was introduced after a state-level judicial officers' conference in 2016 suggested it.
The legislation allows imposition of fine on people standing surety for securing bail in cases of grave offences if he or she fails to produce the accused on the date fixed by the court.

Maharashtra to Introduce 4th Women's Policy
Maharashtra's new women's policy would be introduced during the Budget session of the state legislature.
Women and Child Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha made the announcement in the Legislative Assembly while replying to a debate on the issue.
The debate on women's policy had been initiated in the House to mark International Women's Day.
The state government will take note of all the suggestions put forth by the MLAs with regard to welfare, security and empowerment of women. The government will also table its performance report on decisions related to women empowerment regularly. The new policy will be practical.
A 'janata durbar' will be held for women at the district level every month where 50 complaints will be taken up. A women's bazaar to promote products of Self-Help Groups has also been proposed every month in all districts.

Uttarakhand will soon roll out a self-employment scheme for single women, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said.

Data Protection Bill Gets IT Panel Thumbs-up
The parliamentary standing committee on communications and information technology (IT) gave a "big thumbs-up" to the draft Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Bill, 2022, as it will soon be tabled in Parliament.
The Bill, which seeks to enforce the fundamental right to privacy of citizens, has the provision of penalties ranging up to Rs. 250 crore for data fiduciaries on account of failing to take safeguards to prevent personal data breaches. It also requires fiduciaries to take clear and informed consent from the user before collecting any personal data.
In August 2022, the government withdrew the previous draft titled PDP Bill, 2019, from Parliament, after a joint parliamentary committee recommended 81 amendments to a Bill of 99 sections, along with 12 recommendations.

Gujarat Passes Bill to Extend Period for Filing Applications to Regularise Illegal Constructions
The Gujarat Assembly passed a bill to amend an Act to regularise unauthorised constructions in urban areas by collecting "impact fee" from owners, which also empowered the government to extend the period for filing applications to regularise unauthorised constructions.
Although the Aam Aadmi Party, which has five MLAs in the 182-member House, supported the "Gujarat Regularisation of Unauthorised Development (Amendment) Bill, 2023", it was passed by a majority vote of BJP legislators as the opposition Congress refused to extend support.
