Chinese Covid Vaccine Gets WHO Emergency Approval
The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted emergency approval for a Covid vaccine made by Chinese state-owned company Sinopharm.
It is the first vaccine developed by a non-Western country to get WHO backing.
The vaccine has already been given to millions of people in China and elsewhere.
The WHO had previously only approved the vaccines made by Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna.
But individual health regulators in various countries - especially poorer ones in Africa, Latin America and Asia - have approved Chinese jabs for emergency use.
With little data released internationally early on, the effectiveness of the various Chinese vaccines has long been uncertain.

SC Directs Rajasthan Private Schools to Reduce Fees for 2020-21 Session
The Supreme Court bench noted that schools and educational institutions that have been closed for the past one year and continue to do so should reduce fees as their running and overhead costs of maintenance, electricity, petrol/diesel to run generators, water costs, and stationery charges have come down with various facilities provided on campus remaining closed.
The Supreme Court directed Rajasthan private schools to reduce the annual school fees for the 2020-21 period by 15 per cent.
The SC was hearing an appeal filed by some private schools of Rajasthan against an HC order upholding the Rajasthan government's direction to schools to give a deduction of 30 percent in fees.
