Harsh Vardhan Releases 14th National Health Profile, 2019

  •  Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan released the 14th National Health Profile (NHP), 2019 and its e-book in New Delhi.
  • The NHP is prepared by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence and covers comprehensive information on demographic, socio-economic health status, health finance indicators, health infrastructure and health of human resources in the country.

IIM Calcutta Best B-school In India, Bags 17th Spot Globally In FT Ranking

  •  Of the few Indian Institute of Managements (IIM) that have secured a place in the Master in Management Rankings 2019 released by the Financial Times, IIM Calcutta leads the way.
  • IIM Calcutta has bagged the 17th rank globally, jumping six places, for its 2-year Masters in Business Administration programme (earlier Post Graduate Programme in Management).
  • IIM Calcutta has improved its ranking from 2018 when it had secured the 23rd spot. It is ahead of the other four Indian institutes listed in FT Ranking.
  • The institute has also taken over IIM Ahmedabad for the top spot in the country.

Indians Are Second-Most Sleep Deprived After Japan

  •  India has emerged as the least-active country among 18 countries including the US, the UK, Japan and Singapore, walking an average of 6,533 steps daily, according to a report by fitness solutions firm Fitbit.
  • Indians were also the second-most sleep deprived after Japan, getting an average night sleep of 7 hours 1 minute.
  • Based on aggregated and anonymised user data insights from 18 countries, the Fitbit report found that "Indians are the least active and log in only 6,533 steps daily, the least amongst all 18 countries which is 3,600 steps lesser than the average of the most active country — Hong Kong".
  • Average active minutes (32) also fare the lowest in the grid.

Lucknow School Bags Guinness World Record Title for having 55,547 Students

  •  Lucknow-based school has won the Guinness World Record for becoming the 'world's largest school' in terms of strength of students.
  • City Montessori School (CMS) has won the global award for having 55,547 students in 2019-20, as stated by CMS founder, Jagdish Gandhi.
  • Lucknow-based school has won the Guinness World Record for becoming the 'world's largest school' in terms of strength of students.

QS India University Rankings 2020

  •   The annual university rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) were released. The QS India University Rankings 2020 saw several IITs dominating the list.
  • IIT Bombay, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and IIT Delhi were ranked as the top three educational institutes in India.
  • IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur made it to ranks 4 and 5 respectively. The institute published a separate ranking for India for the first time in 2019 and IIT Bombay had topped the India list even then; the premier technical institute was ranked number 8 among top institutions in BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
  • At least 11 institutions had achieved a perfect score of 100 under the criterion of 'staff with PhD' indicator, which showed that many top Indian institutions had their focus as strong research.
  • The list also saw two West Bengal government-run universities, namely Calcutta University (CU) and Jadavpur University (JU) appearing on the list.

CBSE, NCERT To Launch 'Tamanna' Aptitude Test For Class 9, 10 Students

  •  In a bid to help students make the right career choices, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) have launched an online aptitude test called as 'Tamanna' (Try And Measure Aptitude And Natural Abilities).
  • Tamanna is an aptitude test that aims at helping students of Class 9 and 10 make a better choice of subjects, eventually helping them in making an informed decision while choosing subjects in Class 11 and 12.
  • CBSE (Know your aptitude) KYA exam assesses a student's weaknesses and strengths in academics.

Karnataka Govt Approves ₹667 Cr For Nirbhaya Fund

  •  The Karnataka government  approved ₹667 crore for various projects for women's safety, including the installation of 7,500 cameras in Bengaluru, under the Nirbhaya Fund.
  • J.C. Madhuswamy, the state minister for law, parliamentary affairs and minor irrigation, said the cabinet had given its nod for the proposed "safe city project" for women which would include installation of global information system mapping, among other infrastructure.
