UGC recommends Institutions for Institutes of Eminence
The University Grants Commission has today announced names of all 20 Institutions of Eminence (IOEs). The list includes IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi and IISc, besides the private institutes BITS-Pilani, Manipal Academy of Higher Institutes and Jio Institutes. UGC has recommended that Delhi University, BHU, Hyderabad University, IIT-Madras and IIT-Kharagpur be granted IOE status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
Among the universities that got the UGC recommendations for issuing the letter of intent are Jamia Hamdard University, OP Jindal University and Shiv Nadar University.
Meanwhile, Aligarh Muslim University, Tezpur University and Ashoka University failed to make the cut for the IOE status.
Azim Premji University (Bengaluru), Ashoka University (Sonepat), Krea University (Chennai), Indian Institute of Human Settlements (Bengaluru), and Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH), Gandhinagar, didn't make the cut.

Control Learning Workshop
Indian Institute of Technology Mandi in collaboration with Control Society organised a five-day workshop on 'Learning and Control' from. The aim of the workshop was to address the existing need for a sound analytical foundation for Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Control Theory. The workshop was jointly sponsored by IIT Mandi, Control Society, and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) India.
The workshop on 'Learning and Control' is a platform to discuss current advances in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. The objective is to enhance the knowledge of participants who want to become researchers and expert users of Machine Learning and Control Methodologies, the workshop was designed with a focus on senior B. Tech students, research scholars and junior faculty from engineering institutes and colleges.

Four States to Replicate Delhi's Happiness Classes
Education ministers and officials from Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry and Nagaland visited different Delhi government schools to be a part of the Happiness Classes.
The visits come on the penultimate day of the Happiness Utsav, a 15-day festival organised by the Delhi government to celebrate a year of the Happiness Curriculum.
All education ministers unanimously agreed to replicate Delhi's Happiness Curriculum in their respective states after the visit. Several educationists and ministers have been visiting Delhi government schools in the past week to observe the classes and speak to students about it.

Red Wine Can Treat Depression
Researchers have found a compound present in red wine which can treat depression and anxiety.
According to Ying Xu, Associate Professor, University at Buffalo in the US, the plant compound resveratrol displays anti-stress effects by blocking the expression of an enzyme which controls stress in the brain.
Resveratrol may be an effective alternative to drugs for treating patients suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.
The findings shed light onto how neurological processes are impacted by resveratrol, a compound having numerous health benefits and found in the skin and seeds of grapes and berries.

Cerebration Business Quiz
The Hindu Business Line is back with the 17th edition of Cerebration Business Quiz. Presented by Union Bank, the quiz would see a range of participants which include business professionals, corporate executives, students from prominent B-schools and MBA aspirants.
Packaged as the country's toughest corporate business quiz, it would be held across six cities — Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kochi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Hyderabad would play host to the quiz on August 2.
The quiz would be held on August 9 in Bengaluru, in Chennai on August 10.
On August 23, Cerebration would take place in Kochi.
The quiz would be held on in Delhi and on September 7 in Mumbai.
Each team which registers should have 2 persons representing either the same college or corporate organisation. In the preliminary rounds which will be held across the six cities, participants will go through a written test with 20 questions following which the top six teams would qualify for the finals in that city.
One team in each centre would be declared as the regional winner and would be given the opportunity to fly to Mumbai to participate in the grand finale.
