'Prerna App' To Monitor Schools

  •  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath  inaugurated an important app related to the education system. Its name is Prerna App and Prerna Web Portal.
  • Through this, the attendance of teachers and students in the schools of Basic Education Council can be monitored from the mid-day meal.
  • CM launched it at Indira Gandhi Foundation. Project Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Vijay Kiran Anand said that teachers have to register school attendance through Prerna App.
  • They have to take selfie with the children and upload it on the app. Assessment of students 'learning output in council schools and Kasturba Gandhi Girls' Schools will also be done through the portal.
  • Through the portal, the Chairman and Vice President of the School Management Committee will also upload photos of other activities including regular meeting of the committee, prayer meeting, sports and uniform distribution through the app. Officers inspecting schools will also have to upload photos on the portal and the app.

Govt Mulls To Establish 42 New Outlets Of PMBJAK Within Health Care Institutions In J&K

  •  In Jammu and Kashmir, Government is mulling to establish 42 new outlets of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra (PMBJAK) within health care institutions in the state.
  • This was stated by Financial Commissioner of J&K Health & Medical Education Atal Dulloo. 
  • Out of these 42 outlets, 19 will be opened in Jammu Division and 23 in Kashmir Division.
  • The regulatory clearance for operating these shops has been obtained for 14 stores whereas 30 stores are in the pipeline & expected to open in a fortnight.

India To Contribute USD 22 mn To Global Fund For AIDS, TB, Malaria

  •  India has announced a contribution of USD 22 million to the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFTAM) for 2020-22 as part of its commitment towards eliminating these diseases.
  • India shares a sustained partnership with the Global Fund since 2002, both as recipient and as a donor.
  •  India stands firm to its long-standing partnership with the Global Fund and its commitment to eliminate AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
  • India's pledge for the Global Fund strongly demonstrates its strong political leadership to achieve universal health and its equally strong commitment to work across borders and join hands in fighting the epidemic of these three diseases.

Rajasthan To Launch AB-MGRSBY Health Insurance Scheme

  •  The Rajasthan government will launch a new health insurance scheme -- Ayushman Bharat-Mahatma Gandhi Rajasthan Swasthya Bima Yojna (AB-MGRSBY).
  • The scheme will be implemented after merging the Centre's Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY) and the state's Bhamashah Swasthya Bima Yojna (BSBY).
  • The decision to merge the two schemes was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
  • With the merger of AB-PMJAY and BSBY, the number of families getting benefit will increase.
  • The Chief Minister said that complaints of irregularities under BSBY were being received and these shortcomings have been taken care of in the new scheme.

Health Minister Takes Cycle Ride To Reach 72nd Session Of WHO's SEARO meeting venue in New Delhi

  •  Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan today took a cycle ride from his residence to reach the venue in New Delhi where the 72nd Session of World Health Organization Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO) meeting is being held. He also participated in the yoga session.
  • At the inauguration of the Session of WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia, Dr Vardhan said, universal health for all, a disease-free India and global standards of excellence in health care is the aim of the NDA Government for a new India. 
  • Stressing on the need for right and healthy nutrition, the Minister said, the government is observing the entire month of September as Poshan Maah to sensitize the public towards healthy eating, address the twin issues of malnutrition.

ICMR-NIN Conducting Programmes On Occasion Of National Nutrition Week Till Sept 7

  •  The Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR)-National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is going to implement the effectiveness of diet and lifestyle intervention with respect to lifestyle diseases like Hypertension and diabetes. This will be done through information, education and communication through Anganwadi Workers as centre of knowledge dissemination with respect to these diseases. 
  • NIN Director Dr R Hemalatha informed that the national institute has generated an extensive data recently over prevalence of overweight, obesity and non-communicable diseases relating to 16 states of the country from both urban and rural areas.
  • On the occasion of the National Nutrition Week, Dr R Hemalatha said the study will help to reduce the increase of non communicable diseases.
  • The NIN Director further said the studies conducted by the ICMR institute also help in addressing nutrition-related problems like stunting and inter-generation cycle of mall-nutrition.
  • The NIN is conducting several programmes for students and teachers on the occasion of the National Nutrition Week till 7th of this month.

Odisha Police Set Up Special Cell To Probe Crime Against Women

  •  The Odisha police has started a separate cell to deal with all cases of crime against women including that of dowry death and non-dowry torture.
  • The decision comes in the wake of a spurt of crime against women in the state.
  • A circular signed by Odisha's director general of police (DGP) Bijoy Kumar Sharma said the cell to be headed by an additional superintendent of police will monitor all red flag cases and ensure prompt investigation and finalisation of rape cases within 60 days. A red flag case is defined as an incident of inhumane crime against a woman that are dealt with utmost priority by the police.
  • The special cell will also pursue expeditious prosecution of such cases by appointment of special prosecutor in deserving cases and promote and ensure use of latest technological tools like DNA evidence, cyber forensics and mobile forensics for cases of sexual assault.
  • The cell will analyse judgments so that appeals can be made in befitting cases. In rape cases where the accused were acquitted, the cell would analyse judgments for recommending appropriate action against erring officers and prosecutors.

Health Ministry Explores AI For Combating Tuberculosis

  •  The Central TB Division of the Health Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to explore the application of cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technology in its fight against tuberculosis (TB). The MoU was signed by Vikas Sheel, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry and P Anandan, CEO of Wadhwani AI.
  • As part of the collaboration, Wadhwani AI would support the National TB programme by helping it become AI-ready. This would include, developing, piloting, and deploying AI-based solutions. "It would support the programme in vulnerability and hot-spot mapping, modelling novel methods of screening and diagnostics and enabling decision support for care-givers apart from supporting the Revised National TB Programme (RNTCP) in adoption of other AI technologies.

CGHS Services To Be Made Available In 100 Cities By 2022: Health Minister

  •  Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan launched a new scheme of Annual Health Check-up for CGHS beneficiaries who are pensioners of the age of 75 years and above. 
  • He also inaugurated state-of-the-art CGHS Bhawan in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Harsh Vardhan stated that CGHS services should be made available in 100 cities by 2022. 
  • The CGHS services which started in 1954 from Delhi expanded to only 25 cities till 2014. However, in the last five years under the NDA Government, the services have been extended to as many as 71 cities.
