CJI Inaugurates New Building Of Karnataka Judicial Academy In Bengaluru

  •  The Chief Justice of India Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde inaugurated the phase-1 of the new building of the Karnataka Judicial Academy on Crescent Road in Bengaluru.
  • The new building has three floors, besides, the ground floor and two basement floors.
  • While Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa inaugurated the 319-seater multi-purpose auditorium, at which Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka felicitated Justice Bobde.

First-Year Students Of Karnataka Govt. Degree Colleges To Get Free Laptops

  •  The State government has decided to give free laptops to over a lakh students of first grade government colleges.
  • Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will launch the free laptop distribution programme on the day of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti at the Sri Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru, by symbolically presenting laptops to a few students. Later, laptops will be distributed to all first-year degree students at government first grade colleges.
  • A total of 1.09 lakh students would get laptops. The estimated expenditure is ₹300 crore.

'Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020' to be held on 20th Jan

  •  The third edition of Prime Minister's Interaction with school students, "Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020", will be held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on 20th of this month. Over 2000 students, parents and teachers will be participating from all over India in this event.
  • The Human Resource Development Ministry in partnership with MyGov last month launched a 'short essay' competition for students of classes 9 to 12 for the third edition of Prime Minister's Interaction with school students.

Vikram Sarabhai Children Innovation Center

  •  Vikram Sarabhai Children Innovation Center (VSCIC) will be set up soon in Gujarat. The announcement for the same was made by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani while speaking during the felicitation ceremony of Children's Innovation Festival (CIF) in Gandhinagar.
  • The Gujarat CM felicitated the top 30 innovation ideas by the school teams during the Children's Innovation Festival . The Gujarat University also exchanged a letter of intent with the UNICEF on the occasion. 

Two Indian-Origin Women Appointed Judges In New York City

  •   Two Indian-origin women have been appointed as judges to the criminal and civil courts by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
  •     Ambekar was first appointed as an Interim Civil Court Judge in May 2018 and has been serving in Criminal Court.
  •     Prior to her appointment, she served with the New York City Council as a Senior Legislative Attorney and Counsel to the Committee on Public Safety.

  •  The Cabinet approved conferring the status of Institution of National Importance to a cluster of Ayurvedic institutions at Gujarat Ayurved University campus in Jamnagar.
  • Considering the rapidly growing role of AYUSH Systems in addressing the Public Health challenges of India, conferring the status of National Importance will boost the role and importance of Ayurveda in Public Health

Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurates The NSE Knowledge Hub

  • NSE Academy Limited (NAL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE) launched The NSE Knowledge Hub, a unique Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered learning eco-system to assist the BFSI sector in enhancing skills for their employees and helping academic institutions in preparing future ready talent skilled for the financial services industry.
  • Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Minister of Commerce and Industries; Minister of Railways inaugurated NSE Knowledge Hub in the presence of Shri Vikram Limaye, MD & CEO, NSE and other dignitaries.
  • NSE Knowledge Hub will bring world class content closer to learners in a personalized and community learning environment which allows aggregation, curation, creation and targeting of content making it both learner centric and learner driven. The learning platform is powered by content aggregated from many internal, external, and premium sources, and enhanced by collaborative knowledge sharing from users. 

HRD Ministry takes a leap forward in transforming education sector

  • Human Resource Development Ministry took a leap forward in transforming the education sector with the motto of Education for All and Quality Education. In the year 2019, Dr K Kasturirangan Committee submitted the Draft National Education Policy to the ministry. 
  • The Government had initiated the process of formulating a New Education Policy to meet the changing dynamics of the requirements of the population with regard to quality education, innovation and research.
  • The Ministry has launched the Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Program (DHRUV) to identify and encourage talented children to enrich their skills and knowledge. 
  • AIR Correspondent reports that a National Mission to improve learning outcomes at the elementary level through an Integrated Teacher Training Programme, National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement -NISHTHA was launched in August last year. This program is aimed at building the capacities of around 42 lakh teachers and Heads of Schools. 
  • Under Samagra Shiksha, a total of 5930  Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have been sanctioned in the country out of which 4881 such schools are operational. In the year 2019-20. An outlay of over Rs 800 crore has been approved under sports grant for over 10 lakh government schools of different categories. 
  • The fresh guidelines for sports and physical education are being prepared.

Govt announces first 'Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman'

  • The Government of India has announced first 'Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman' for several media houses. This award will be conferred on January 7, 2020, to 30 media houses. The objective behind this award is to bring positivity and acknowledge the role of media in the outreach of Yoga in the world.
  • This award was instituted in June 2019 to mark the role of media in spreading the message among masses. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar will confer the first 'Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman'.

171 hospitals de-empanlled and Rs 4.6 crore penalty to hospitals for committing fraud in PMJAY

  • The National Health Authority (NHA) has de-empanelled about 171 hospitals and imposed penalty of Rs 4.6 crore to several hospitals in nine states for indulging in fraudulent activities in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship health insurance scheme: Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
  • Moreover, more than 390 hospitals have been served show-cause notice and suspended in different states.
  • The National Anti-Fraud Unit (NAFU) at NHA has pointed out that several cases of malpractices among empanelled hospitals. These malpractices have largely occurred in hospitals based in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
