Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the country's first 'Plasma Bank', which is set up at Delhi's ILBS (Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences) Hospital.
Under plasma therapy, antibodies from the blood of a person who has recovered from Covid-19 are taken and transfused into a coronavirus infected patient to boost the immune system to fight the infection.
Plasma is the almost-clear liquid left behind after red and white blood cells and platelets are removed from the blood.

Ajit K Chaturvedi New Director of IIT-Mandi
Professor Timothy A Gonsalves, founding director, completed over a decade at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. Gonsalves handed over the charge to Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, director, IIT-Roorkee, as the acting director with effect from July 1.
Prof. Chaturvedi, an expert in wireless communication technology, is the current director of IIT-Roorkee. He completed his BTech, MTech, and PhD from IIT Kanpur in 1986, 1988, and 1995, respectively. His research interests include communication theory and wireless communications. He is known for his contributions to waveform shaping and sequence design.
He has also served the Department of Electronics Engineering at IIT-BHU from 1994 to 1996. He joined as faculty of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering at IIT-Roorkee. In 1999, he moved to IIT-Kanpur where he also held the positions of HOD Electrical Engineering, Dean of Research and Development, and deputy director.
He is a recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award of IIT-Kanpur and Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship of Nanyang Technical University, Singapore.

IIT Madras Launches World's First Online Degree, Diploma Courses in Programming, Data Science
Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched the world's first ever online degree (B.Sc) and diploma courses in programming and data science. Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the programme through a webinar. Anyone who has passed class 12th examination can enrol in the online course. Moreover, there is no age restrictions for learners. The online application process will begin soon. Candidates are advised to visit the official website at onlinedegree.iitm.ac.in.
There are three levels in the online degree program. To get a BSc Degree in Programming and Data Science from IIT Madras, a learner has to successfully complete all three levels namely- foundation level, diploma, and degree level. Moreover, there are three exit levels as well. Students can exit from the course at any level. They can either complete the degree (3rd level -BSc) or exit after completing either foundation level or diploma level.
There are a total of 31 course. The completion time is between three to six years. Learners will have to complete the online courses and assignments, quizzes and exams to gain 116 credits.
At the end of a term, there will be an end term exam of 3 hours duration for each course.

World Bank Clears $500 mn to Improve Quality of Education System
The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved USD 500 million (about Rs 3,700 crore) loan to improve quality and governance of school education in six Indian states. The board approved a loan for Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program (STARS) in June 2020.
Some 250 million students (between the age of 6 and 17) in 1.5 million schools, and over 10 million teachers will benefit from the program. The STARS program builds on the long partnership between India and the World Bank (since 1994), for strengthening public school education and to support the country's goal of providing Education for All," it said. Prior to STARS, the bank had provided a total assistance of more than USD 3 billion towards this goal.

IIT-Delhi and Bombay to Conduct Classes Online in Next Semester
Two of India's most-premier educational institutions – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Delhi and IIT-Bombay – said that all classes for the next semester will conducted completely online in view of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
IIT-Delhi director V. Ramgopal Rao said that the institute will follow the recommendations made by a sub-committee on the minimum common strategy to be followed by IITs.
According to the sub-committee's report, submitted to the IIT council's standing committee in June, classes for the first semester of the 2020-21 academic year will be conducted online for all courses.
The situation will be reviewed again in October 2020.
