The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu called for presenting a "real history" of India to the younger generations as there were many distortions in the history drafted by the colonial rulers.
Presenting Punyabhushan Award to eminent Archeologist, Dr. G.B. Deglurkar, in Pune, Maharashtra, he said that unfortunately our history books did not mention about the contributions made by many illustrious sons and daughters of India.
The award has been instituted by the Punyabhushan Foundation.

Perumal Murugan, Rajkamal Jha and Fatima Bhutto are among the 15 authors in the longlist of the $25,000 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2019, announced in New Delhi.
The longlist, unveiled by jury chair Harish Trivedi, comprises three translated works from Malayalam, Tamil and Bengali, seven female authors, and an equal number novelists making debut, highlighting the growing diversity and the power of new writing in the South Asian literary landscape.
The jury will further evaluate the longlisted entries over the next month (October 2019) and the shortlist of five to six books will be announced on November 6, 2019 at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE).
The winner will be announced at a special award ceremony on December 16, 2019 at the IME Nepal Literature Festival grand finale at Pokhara, Nepal.

Flipkart Co-Founder Binny Bansal To Be Awarded 'Distinguished Alumni Award' By IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi is all set to honour Billionaire entrepreneur Binny Bansal with the 'Distinguished Alumni Award'. Flipkart co-founder will be awarded the 'Distinguished Alumni Award' for his contributions to development of the e-Commerce giant.
Bansal passed out from IIT Delhi in 2005 and will be the youngest alumni to receive the honour for his "outstanding contribution made in entrepreneurship".
In addition to Bansal, IIT Delhi will also be honouring two other alumni from the institute i.e. Srinivsan Keshav and Mohit Aron. Altogether, three alums from IIT Delhi will be recognized as distinguished alumni for the year 2019.
Right Livelihood Award
The Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize', celebrates its 40th anniversary.
The 2019 Award goes to Aminatou Haidar (Western Sahara), Guo Jianmei (China), Greta Thunberg (Sweden) and Davi Kopenawa / Hutukara Yanomami Association (Brazil). The Laureates were announced in Stockholm, Sweden.
The international jury has selected four Laureates who will each receive 1 million SEK (94,000 EUR).
The human rights defender Aminatou Haidar (Western Sahara) receives the Right Livelihood Award "for her steadfast nonviolent action, despite imprisonment and torture, in pursuit of justice and self-determination for the people of Western Sahara".
Centre Institutes National Unity Award Named After Sardar Patel
The Centre has instituted the highest civilian award for contribution to the unity and integrity of India, in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.The award seeks to recognize notable and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India.
The award will be announced on the occasion of the National Unity Day on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on 31st of October in 2019.

A teenager from Rajasthan Payal Jangid was conferred with a special Award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 17-year-old Payal received the Changemaker Award at the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards for her campaign to end child labour and child marriage.
Payal belongs to Hinsla village in Rajasthan' Alwar district and served as the Head of the Bal Panchayat (Children's Council) in her village as part of the 'Bal Mitra Gram' (Child-Friendly Village) program under Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi's Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).
Greta Thunberg Wins 'Alternative Nobel Prize' For Inspiring Climate Change Advocacy
Swedish climate-change activist Greta Thunberg is among four winners of The Right Livelihood Award, often called the "Alternative Nobel Prize," the Right Livelihood Foundation announced.
The teen activist, whose impassioned speech at the U.N. Climate Action Summit won the award for "inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting scientific facts," the organization said.
The prize traces its roots to 1979 when a Swedish-German philanthropist's proposal to create two new Nobel Prizes, including one for environmental work, was rebuffed, the organization says. Since 1980, the Right Livelihood Award has been given to 178 people from 70 countries.
Other 2019 Right Livelihood Award awards were also given to: Aminatou Haidar of Western Sahara, Guo Jianmei of China and jointly to Davi Kopenawa and the Hutukara Yanomami Association of Brazil.

Amitabh Bachchan Wins Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Actor Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2019.
The announcement of actor Amitabh Bachchan being awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been met with celebration by the star's Bollywood peers.
Actor Anil Kapoor and filmmaker Karan Johar were among the first to congratulate Bachchan on the win.
Previously, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to the arts.
The Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian honour, Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007.

Megan Rapinoe won the women's player award - ahead of fellow American Alex Morgan and England's Lucy Bronze - at the Best Fifa Football Awards in Milan.
Rapinoe, 34, claimed the Golden Ball for being the best player at the 2019 Women's World Cup as she helped the United States win the competition.
Lyon right-back Bronze, 27, was named in the women's team of the year - the only English player to feature.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has received the prestigious Vaccine Hero award in recognition of Bangladesh's outstanding success in vaccination to immunise children.
GAVI Board Chair Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala handed the award to the Bangladesh prime minister at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Hasina was applauded for the success in immunisation in Bangladesh, especially for her role in eliminating polio and curtailing diphtheria, hepatitis-B and rubella.
Okonjo-Iweala, former finance minister of Nigeria, delivered a felicitation speech on the occasion.
Prime Minister Modi Receives "Global Goalkeeper" Award For Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the "Global Goalkeeper" award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by his government.
Mr Modi dedicated the award to those Indians who transformed the Swachh Bharat campaign into a "people's movement" and accorded topmost priority to cleanliness in their day-to-day lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister said, when 130 crore people take a pledge, any challenge can be overcome.
Mr Modi said, over 11 crore toilets were built in the country in the last five years, which is a record. Prime Minister said, the poor people and the women of India were benefited the most by it.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi won the best men's player at the Best Fifa Football Awards in Milan as Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk missed out on the top prize.
