Tobacco Board of India Received the 2019 Golden Leaf Award
Tobacco Board of India was awarded the Golden Leaf Award in the Most Impressive Public Service Initiative category for the year 2019. The award recognised the Tobacco Board's efforts to initiate various sustainability green initiatives in Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco cultivation in India. The award was presented to the Executive Director of Tobacco Board, K. Sunitha at the Tab Expo 2019 event in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The Golden Leaf Awards were established to recognize professional excellence and dedication in the tobacco industry by Tobacco Reporter, an international magazine in the year 2006. The Golden Leaf Award under Most Impressive Public Service Initiative category is given to a company or institution that introduced a public service programme or educational campaign of creativity, effectiveness to date, and best use of resources.
The Golden Leaf Award is granted every year to companies that have achieved outstanding performance in five categories, namely:
most impressive public service initiative
most committed to quality
most exciting newcomer to the industry
most promising new product introduction
most outstanding service to the industry

At Global Event, UP Police Bags 3rd Prize For Response To Emergency Among 500 Forces
The Uttar Pradesh Police was awarded third prize in emergency response category during an international call centre event organised by the Dubai Police.
More than 500 police services from across the world including the 911 of the US considered in the maiden edition of the 'Dubai Police International Call Centre Award'.
The first prize was bagged by the Singapore Police, while the second was won by the Sharjah Police.
Achievers Award For Shooter Avneet Sidhu
Former international shooter Avneet Sidhu, who is a DSP with the Punjab Police, was honoured with Guru Nanak Dev Ji Achievers Award during a state-level function at Sultanpur Lodhi.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh conferred the award on Avneet during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev for her contribution to the field of sports .
The state government has honoured 550 Punjabis who achieved success in their fields.
Catalan Poet Joan Margarit Wins Spain's Cervantes Prize
The Spanish government said Catalan poet Joan Margarit has won the 2019 Cervantes Prize, the Spanish-speaking world's highest literary honour.
Margarit, who is also an architect, has published over 20 volumes of poetry mainly in Catalan but also in Spanish. The 81-year-old has won several awards for his verse, including the Pablo Neruda prize in Chile.
Catalan is the language spoken along with Spanish in Spain's northeastern region of Catalonia.
The award for Margarit comes amid an increase in tensions in Catalonia over its separatist movement.
The jury said Margarit "has enriched both the Spanish and the Catalan language and represents the plurality of our culture".
The 125,000-euro (USD 137,600) award generally alternates between Spanish and Latin American writers.
Amit Panghal was Conferred the Haryana Gaurav Award
India boxer Amit Panghal was conferred the Haryana Gaurav award for winning the silver medal in the World Boxing Championship. The award was conferred by the Haryana in UK Association.
The association also honored the International Sports Curator Sunil Yash Kalra.
The awards were presented by Elected Member of British Parliament from Southall, London, Virendra Sharma, at an award ceremony held in London.
Haryana Gaurav award:
The Haryana Gaurav award is presented every year to those who have been successful in leaving a mark in the field of sports.
In 2018, the boxer Manoj Kumar was conferred with the same award.
Dr Cyrus Poonawalla Conferred With ABLF Lifetime Achievement Award
In a befitting celebration that complements the 'Year of Tolerance', the 12th edition of the Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF) presented its prestigious ABLF Awards to visionary leaders from across Asia, who inspire and set high standards in leadership excellence.
Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, founder and chairman of Serum Institute of India, was conferred with the ABLF Lifetime Achievement Award in Dubai, UAE at a glittering ceremony.
It was in 1966, that Dr Poonawalla embarked on his journey to establish Serum Institute of India, which is now the world's largest producer of vaccines by number of doses, producing at least 1.5 billion doses a year of life-saving vaccines used in over 170 countries.

Robert De Niro's cap to be Honoured with Life Achievement Award
Hollywood veteran and double Oscar winner Robert De Niro will receive the Life Achievement Award from Screen Actors Guild (SAG) at the 26th edition of the ceremony in 2020.
The actor has been named the 56th recipient of SAG-AFTRA's highest tribute: the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.
The 76-year-old De Niro will be presented the honour on January 19, 2020.
The SAG Life Achievement Award is given annually to an actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession".
Indian Wins 'BRICS-Young Innovator Prize' for Indigenous Milk Chilling Unit
Ravi Prakash, an Indian PhD scholar has won the USD 25,000 BRICS-Young Innovator Prize for inventing an affordable indigenous milk chilling unit for smaller and marginal rural dairy farmers.
Prakash, PhD scholar of ICAR – National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Bangalore, was a part of 21-member delegation sent to Brazil by the Department of Science and Technology for the 4th BRICS-Young Scientist Forum (YSF), 2019.
India won the first prize, carrying USD 25,000, in the forum.

Bandana Sen Awards
The inaugural Bandana Sen Awards celebrated libraries and librarians, recognising the best practices in nurturing learning environments.
To facilitate world-class libraries across the country, OneUp Library, Bookstudio and Learning Lab launched this one-of-a-kind award in memory of Bandana Sen.
The awards aim to motivate and promote library as a space for nurturing young students' imagination, critical thinking abilities and the development of collaborative spirit and innovation.
Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi won the award for its junior library while Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai received the award for its senior library.
Munin Barkotoki Literary Award announced
The Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust has chosen young poet Ankur Ranjan Phukan and short story writer Monoranjan Bori for the Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2019 for their manuscripts Khando-ta and Moh-jokh respectively. This annual award instituted to encourage young and promising writers in Assamese, carries a cash prize of fifty thousand rupees along with a citation and a plaque.
The 25th edition of the award will be given away at a formal function to be held in Guwahati.
