David Attenborough To Get Indira Gandhi Peace Prize For 2019

  •  The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2019 will be conferred on renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough.
  • His name was selected for the prize by an international jury chaired by former president Pranab Mukherjee, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. 
  • The 2019 prize, it added, is awarded to Attenborough for a lifetime of doing more to reveal the wonders of the natural world to us than perhaps any other individual.

Ayush Minister gives away Rejoice National Ayush Awards

  •  Ayush Minister Shripad Yesso Naik gave away Rejoice National Ayush Awards to health sector entities for their significant contribution in providing health services through various programmes.
  • The awards were initiated by Rejoice Health Foundation, a promoter of mankind health services in the country.
  • Speaking at the function in New Delhi, Ayush Minister praised the foundation's efforts for taking care of specially abled-children through the application of AYUSH system.
  • The Minister said the foundation will be supported in this noble cause as it is very much needed to come together for the development and progress of specially-abled children.
  • Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Rama Devi attended the event. Over 200 delegates, including doctors from AYUSH stream, dignitaries as well as representative of various universities and associations also attended the event. 

Delhi Metro wins 2 Awards at Urban Mobility India Conference

  •  The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been conferred with two awards for its commendable initiatives in promoting the metro as a green and sustainable mode of transport among the masses.
  • DMRC was awarded for the 'Last Mile Connectivity' project in the category of best non-motorised transport and the 'Green Metro project - An Initiative for Sustainable and Viable Urban Transport' in the category of best green initiative in urban transport, at the 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held from November 15 to 17, 2019 in Lucknow.
  • The awards were given away by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.
  • The Delhi Metro began its first services on Shahdara-Tis Hazari corridor of Red Line in December 2002.

  • David Attenborough, a renowned naturalist, has been conferred with the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2019 for his tireless efforts towards awakening the humankind to the need to preserve and protect the planet's biodiversity.
  • Sir David Attenborough, as he is popularly known, has been recognized with the award for his lifetime worth of work to reveal the wonders of the natural world and awaken mankind to live in a sustainable and harmonious way and stop being a "plague on earth".
  • The 2019 prize winner was announced by the International Jury of the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, chaired by former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Gets Lifetime Achievement Award

  •  Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, chairperson and managing director, Biocon, has been conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for her outstanding achievement in healthcare and contribution to the society at large.
  • ICMR, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, recognised Mazumdar-Shaw as a thought leader for building a globally -renowned biopharmaceuticals company that is providing high-quality, affordable medicines to patients across the world.
  • Bill Gates, co-chair, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, gave away this award to Mazumdar-Shaw in New Delhi on November 17, 2019 at an event to mark the celebration of 108th Foundation Day of ICMR.
  • She was also recognised for her philanthropic efforts and providing better healthcare to people in India and globally through cost-effective life-saving therapies and increasing access to healthcare at the grassroots.

  •  Ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has been conferred the Indian Personality of the Year Award (Sports) at the Indo Arab Leaders Summit & Awards 2019 in Dubai.
  • World powerlifting champion Mahant Gaurav Sharma was honoured with Visionary Leaders of the Year (Sports) award.

Rezwana Choudhury Bannya Gets ICCR Alumni Award In Dhaka @ihcdhaka

  •  Renowned Rabindra Sangeet exponent from Bangladesh Rezwana Choudhury Bannya was conferred the ICCR distinguished alumni award in Dhaka.
  • The award was given away by the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das in a musical function organised by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC).
  • Rezwana Choudhury Bannya is widely recognised as a great exponent of Rabindra Sangeet. She is known for her distinctive style of singing. She has established a musical school 'Shurer Dhara' in Bangladesh to carry forward the Guru-Shishya tradition as practised in Shantiniketan.
  • She is also a recipient of 'Independence Award' which is the highest civilian award of Bangladesh.
