PM Modi Distributes Krishi Karman Awards

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi distributed Krishi Karman Awards and Commendation Awards to states at a public meeting in Tumkur, Karnataka. He also gave away Agriculture Minister's Krishi Karman Awards for Progressive Farmers.
The event also witnessed the release of the 3rd installment of PM Kisan (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi) of Rs. 2000 for the period December 2019-March 2020. This will benefit approximately 6 crore beneficiaries. Prime Minister also handed over Certificates to beneficiaries under PM Kisan from 8 States/UTs.
At the same event, Prime Minister handed over the Keys of Deep Sea fishing Vessels and Fishing Vessel Transponders to select farmers of Tamil Nadu.
He also distributed Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) to select farmers of Karnataka.

INSA Science Popularisation Prize

Chennai-based computer scientist R. Ramanujam will receive the The Indira Gandhi prize for popularisation of science for the year 2020. The prize was instituted by Indian National Science Academy in 1986 and is given once in three years to either a career media professional or a career scientist who has made outstanding contributions to science popularisation in English or in other languages. Previous winners include veteran physicist Jayant V. Narlikar, scientist and writer G. Venkataraman, and scientists and The Hindu columnist D. Balasubramanian.

William Launches Prize to Solve Earth's Challenges

Britain's Prince William launched a multi-million pound prize to encourage the world's greatest problem-solvers to find answers to Earth's biggest environmental problems.
The Earthshot Prize, described as the most prestigious environmental prize in history, will be awarded to five winners a year over the next decade with the aim of producing at least 50 solutions to the world's most pressing challenges.

Lutyens' Delhi Sixth Cleanest in Country

The New Delhi Municipal Council area, which caters to the capital's 3% geographical area, comprising the VIP zone of Lutyens' Delhi, has ranked sixth nationwide in the Swachh Survekshan League 2020 (SS League 2020) rankings for cities with a population between 1 and 10 lakh.
In another category, the three municipal corporations of Delhi — north, south and east — were almost at the bottom of 49 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across India. These three corporations serve 96% of the Capital city's geographical area and population.
The list was released by the Minister of State (MoS) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, at a press conference. He also announced the commencement of the Swachh Survekshan 2020, the fifth edition of the annual urban cleanliness survey.

Amitabh Bachchan Receives Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Amitabh Bachchan was conferred the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke and the actor received the honour from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The 77-year-old actor was conferred the highest honour of the film industry for his outstanding contribution to cinema. The award comprises a Golden Lotus and a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh. Wife Jaya and son Abhishek Bachchan had accompanied the actor for the prestigious ceremony.

Maximum Age Limit for Chief of Defence Staff Put at 65, Government Amends Rules

The defence ministry amended rules to allow the Chief of Defence Staff to serve up to a maximum age limit of 65 years.
The changes have been made in the services rules of the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force for extension of retirement age of the Chief of Defence Staff to a maximum of 65 years if a service chief is appointed to the post.
However, the tenure of the CDS is yet to be announced.

UK Honours for Clive Lloyd, Elton John

Knighthoods for director Sam Mendes and cricket legend Clive Lloyd were announced in the British New Year honours list, which includes singer-composer Elton John and a number of Indian-origin achievers described as extraordinary.
The royal honours list is released twice a year, on New Year's Eve and on Queen Elizabeth's official birthday on the second Saturday of June.
While John has been made a Companion of Honour, Lloyd and award-winning director Mendes were named for knighthoods.
The list includes linguist Aditi Lahiri and musician Jasvir Kaur Rababan.
