Jasprit Bumrah Receives Polly Umrigar And Dilip Sardesai Awards

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah headlined the BCCI Annual Awards function, grabbing the prestigious Polly Umrigar award apart from annexing the Dilip Sardesai honour for his exploits in international cricket in the 2018-19 season.
Polly Umrigar award is presented to the best male International cricketer and it carries a citation, trophy and cheque for Rs. 15 lakh.
Dilip Sardesai award is conferred on both the highest wicket-taker and highest run-getter in Test cricket. Bumrah took 34 wickets in six matches with three five-wicket hauls.

Madhya Pradesh To Honour Deepika Padukone At IIFA

A day after exempting Chhapaak from entertainment tax, the Madhya Pradesh government kept the political pot boiling by announcing on Friday to honour actor Deepika Padukone during the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA Awards).
The awards ceremony is to be hosted by the state for the first time since inception in 2000. Capital Bhopal and the state commercial hub Indore will be venues for the awards ceremony in March, 2020.

Pak varsity sets up Research Chair to honour Indian-American Nobel winner

Indian-American biochemist Har Gobind Khorana, who won the 1968 Nobel Prize for medicine, was on 9 January 2020 , honoured by a Pakistani university, which announced to set up a Research Chair in his name.
The Government College University Lahore (GCU) is going to set up a Research Chair at its Chemistry Department in the name of its alumni Prof. Har Gobind Khorana.

Jasbinder Bilan Wins 2019 Costa Children's Award

Jasbinder Bilan has won the UK based Costa Children's Award 2019 . She has won the award for her debut novel 'Asha and the Spirit Bird'.
She will receive 5,000 pounds as prize money associated with the award. Jasbinder's novel "Asha and the Spirit Bird" was shortlisted from 144 other entries.
The Costa Children's Award is awarded annually in 5 categories: First Novel, Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children's Book.

The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar conferred the First Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas to 30 media organizations, at an event in National Media Centre, New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Javadekar described the award as a unique honour to media organizations that contributed to the spread of Yoga for the benefit of society.

Innovation Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held on January 8

Innovation Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held on the 8th of January. These awards will be conferred at the 12th edition of Global Intellectual Property Convention in New Delhi.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu will be the chief guests at the event. More than 500 delegates from about 25 countries will participate in this three-day conference.

Dubai-based Indian girl, who can sing in 120 languages, has won in the 'Global Child Prodigy Awards 2020. The 13-year-old Sucheta Satish, known as the Dubai Indian High School's nightingale, won in the singing category.

ASIA PACIFIC DROSOPHILA RESEARCH CONFERENCE

The fifth edition of the Asia Pacific Drosophila Research Conference (APDRC5) was held at Pune.

• The conference is being organised in the country for the first time by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).

• The last four editions of this conference took place in Taipei, Seoul, Beijing and Osaka.

The Asia Pacific Drosophila Research Conferences (APDRC) are biennial events that aim to promote the interaction of Drosophila Researchers in the Asia-Pacific region with their peers in the rest of the world.

What is Drosophila?

It is a genus of flies, belonging to the family Drosophilidae, whose members are often called "small fruit flies" or (less frequently) pomace flies, vinegar flies, or wine flies, a reference to the characteristic of many species to linger around overripe or rotting fruit.
