PM Narendra Modi Becomes most Followed Active Politician on Twitter
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now become the most followed active politician on Twitter after the micro-blogging platform imposed a permanent suspension on outgoing US President Donald Trump.
Twitter blocked Trump's account after the January 6 incident when hundreds of Trump's supporters stormed inside the Capitol Hill leading to the death of five people.
Trump had 88.7 million followers before Twitter suspended his account and PM Modi currently has 64.7 million followers. Former US President Barack Obama, however, is still the most followed politician on Twitter with 127.9 million followers. US President-elect Joe Biden has 23.3 million followers.

Indian-American becomes U.S. Army's first CIO
Indian-American Dr. Raj Iyer has taken over as the first Chief Information Officer of the US Army, after the Pentagon created the position in July 2020.
One of the highest ranking Indian-American civilians in the US Department of Defense, Mr. Iyer, who holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Army and directs representation of the secretary in matters relating to information management/information technology (IT), the Pentagon said in a statement.
Equivalent in rank to a three-star General, Mr. Iyer will supervise an annual budget of $16 billion for the US Army's IT operations. Over 15,000 civilians and military personnel posted across 100 countries work under him.
Fashion designer Satya Paul dies at 79
Ace fashion designer Satya Paul, known for giving the Indian saree a contemporary touch, has passed away at the age of 79, his son Puneet Nanda said.
Paul, who had suffered a stroke in December, breathed his last at Sadhguru's Isha Yoga Center.
Paul started his journey in the field of retail in the late 60s and expanded to exports of Indian handloom products to high-end retail stores in Europe and America. In 1980, he launched the first 'saree boutique' in India, L'Affaire, and founded the eponymous fashion clothing brand with his son in 1986.
The brand soon became synonymous for its sleek sarees.

Former Maharashtra Minister Vilas Patil Undalkar Passes Away
Former Maharashtra cabinet minister and seven-time Congress MLA Vilas Patil Undalkar has passed away.
The veteran Congressman, Undalkar, who was popularly known as 'kaka', was elected seven times from Karad-South Assembly constituency for a record 35 consecutive years, from 1980 to 2014.
Undalkar held the Cooperation and Law and Justice portfolios in the State Cabinets during the previous Congress-led state governments.
Pankaj Mithal Sworn in as CJ of J&K, Ladakh High Court
Justice Pankaj Mithal was appointed as the new Chief Justice (CJ) of the Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh in Jammu.
Chief justice Mithal has been appointed in view of the retirement of chief justice Gita Mittal recently. Chief Justice Mithal was administered the oath of office by Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha.

UK judge blocks extradition of Wikileaks founder to US
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange cannot be extradited to the United States, a court in London has ruled.
The judge blocked the request because of concerns over Mr Assange's mental health and risk of suicide in the US.
Mr Assange, who is wanted over the publication of thousands of classified documents in 2010 and 2011, says the case is politically motivated.
Expressing disappointment at the ruling, the US justice department noted that its legal arguments had prevailed.

Nancy Pelsoi Re-elected as Speaker of US House of Representatives
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was narrowly re-elected as the speaker of the US House of Representatives for the 117th Congress.
Pelosi from the Democratic Party secured 216 votes in a tight contest against Republican Kevin McCarthy, who got support from 209 Congressmen.
According to the House Clerk, a total of 427 votes were cast. One vote went to Senator Tammy Duckworth and one to Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.
Notably, six Democratic lawmakers did not vote for Pelosi, while all the 209 Republicans stood by McCarthy, who is now the House Minority Leader. The Democratic Party has 222 seats in the House.
The US House of Representatives has a strength of 435 voting members and six non-voting members.
Former Union Home Minister Buta Singh Passes Away
Former Union Home Minister Buta Singh, who remained in public service for a long time and served under four Prime Ministers, died at AIIMS. He was 86.
The senior Congress leader was in coma since October last year.
Singh began his political career with the Akali Dal in the 1960s. He was elected to Lok Sabha for the first time in 1962 on an Akali Dal ticket from Moga in Punjab but switched to the Congress soon. He was reelected to Lok Sabha in 1967, the second time from Ropar on a Congress ticket. In all, he was an eight-term Lok Sabha MP.
He became a minister for the first time in 1974; there was no looking back after that.
