Jayati Ghosh Named by UN to High-level Advisory Board on Economic, Social Affairs

Indian development economist Jayati Ghosh is among 20 prominent personalities appointed by the United Nations to a high-level advisory board that will provide recommendations for the UN Secretary-General to respond to the current and future socio-economic challenges in the post-COVID-19 world.
Ghosh is a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has taught economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University for nearly 35 years and has authored several books.

Dhanlaxmi Bank Board Approves Appointment of Shivan as MD and CEO

Board of Directors of Kerala-based Dhanlaxmi Bank has given approval to appoint J. K. Shivan as Managing Director and CEO of the Bank.
It may be recalled that the shareholders of the Kerala-based had voted against MD & CEO Sunil Gurbaxani in September 2020. Then, in December 2020, the lender appointed Shivan as the new MD & CEO. However, the banking regulator, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), had asked the Dhanlaxmi Bank Board to get shareholders' approval before appointing J. K. Shivan as the next chief of the bank.

Shyam Srinivasan is Business Standard Banker of the Year

Shyam Srinivasan, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Federal Bank, is the Business Standard Banker of the Year for 2019-20. The award was given for his bank's consistent healthy performance at a time when most of its peers witnessed large stress on asset quality, registered losses, or even invited regulatory actions.
The unanimous decision was taken by a high-profile jury of five, chaired by former RBI deputy governor S. S Mundra. He was chosen for his bank's consistent healthy performance at a time when most of its peers witnessed losses or other issues.

Siddhartha Mohanty New MD of LIC

The government has appointed KIC Housing Finance chief executive officer (CEO) Siddhartha Mohanty as the managing director of Life Insurance Corp. (LIC) with effect from February 1.
The appointment of Mohanty is till superannuation on June 30, 2023.
Mohanty will replace TC Susheel Kumar who is set to retire on January 31, 2021.

Lt Gen Mohanty is Next Army Vice-Chief

Southern Army Commander Lt Gen CP Mohanty has been appointed next Vice-Chief of the Indian Army.
He will take over from Lt General SK Saini after he superannuates on January 31. Lt Gen Mohanty has commanded the crucial 33 Corps in the eastern sector after the Doklam standoff.

JLL India CEO Ramesh Nair Steps Down

JLL India CEO Ramesh Nair is leaving the company to pursue opportunities outside the firm. He is succeeded by Radha Dhir, an experienced financial services executive, who has held senior leadership positions in Deutsche Bank India and Yes Bank.
Nair joined JLL as an analyst in 1999. He rose through the ranks to become Chief Operating Officer in 2013 and then CEO of the India business in 2017. He was also a member of the Asia Pacific Executive Board.
In India, JLL has presence across 10 major cities (Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Coimbatore) and in over 130 tier 2 and 3 markets with a workforce of close to 12,000 professionals.
