Abel prize for 2022: American Mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awarded the Abel Prize for the year 2022 to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan. The citation mentioned that the award was given, "For his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense, and in particular its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects."
Topology is a field of mathematics which was born in the nineteenth century and has to do with properties of surfaces that do not change when they are deformed. Topologically, a circle and a square are the same; similarly, surfaces of a doughnut and a coffee mug with one handle are topologically equivalent, however, the surface of a sphere and a coffee mug are not equivalent.
The Prize recognises extraordinary contributions to the sector of mathematics & is funded by the Norwegian Government & supported the recommendations of the Abel Committee, which consists of 5 internationally recognized mathematicians, the Abel Laureates is chosen.

Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Elected Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh

Biocon Ltd Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), Scotland's National Academy.
Mazumdar-Shaw, who is also the Executive Chairperson of Biocon Biologics, would be joining RSE's current fellowship of around 1,700 fellows.
The fellowship would provide Mazumdar-Shaw an opportunity to work collectively and collaboratively with some of the greatest minds to solve the pressing issues of our times through innovative solutions for the greater good of mankind.
RSE is one of the world's oldest and most respected academic societies. Fellows are elected to join the RSE from across the fields of science, arts, education, business and public life in recognition of their impact in improving the world around them.

Neeraj Chopra Wins Sportsman of the Year Award: Sportstar Aces 2022

Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, Neeraj Chopra claimed the coveted 'Sportstar of the Year (Male)' award at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who claimed the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, received the 'Sportstar of the Year (Female)' award. The Aces Awards celebrate the spirit of excellence in sport and hope to inspire our athletes and sportspersons to continue to strive to break new records and reach new pinnacles of glory.

Arif Khan wins Special Recognition Award at Sportstar Aces 2022.
Former Indian hockey team captain Ajit Pal Singh was conferred the 'Lifetime Achievement award. Ajit was part of two Olympic bronze-winning teams, including one at the 1972 Munich Games.

A Certificate of Accreditation Awarded to Mangaluru International Airport

In March 2022, Airports Council International (ACI) awarded a certificate of accreditation to Mangaluru International Airport. The accreditation is for level one of the Airport Customer Experience Accreditation programme. . The certificate recognises the commitment of the airport to continued customer experience improvement.
Mangaluru International Airport is the third in India to get this coveted accreditation. It is designed to help airports implement best practices, educate employees and ensure customer satisfaction through excellence in service.

Suresh Raina Felicitated with 'Sports Icon' Award by Maldives Government

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina was felicitated with the prestigious 'Sports Icon' award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022 by the Maldives government. He was nominated alongside 16 international sportspersons, including former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, Jamaican Sprinter Asafa Powell, former Sri Lankan captain and cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and Dutch football legend Edgar Davids.
Raina was presented with the award for his various achievements throughout his career.
The event was chaired by the President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Sports Ministers, world-renowned athletes and Maldivian athletes.

Devendra Jhajharia, First Para Athlete, to Receive Padma Bhushan

The legendary Devendra Jhajharia became the first para athlete to receive the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award.
Jhajharia is a multiple-time Paralympics medal winner, having won his maiden gold during the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, his second gold medal during the Rio Games in 2016, and a silver medal during the 2020 Tokyo edition last year.
The javelin thrower competes in the F46 events in the Paralympics and was among the four Paralympic medallists to be conferred with the Padma awards this year.
