Vedanta Appoints Ajay Kapur as CEO

  •  Vedanta appointed Ajay Kapur as the CEO of its aluminium and power business. He joins Vedanta from Ambuja Cements where he was the MD and CEO for its India business.
  • He would drive key priorities for the aluminium business, which include strong focus on volume and cost and improving efficiencies, among others.

Hillary Clinton Rules out 2020 Presidential Run

  •  Hillary Clinton has for the first time ruled out running for President in 2020.
  • Ms. Clinton has held meetings with some of the Democrats who are now vying for the party nomination or considering a run.
  • As the Democratic candidate in 2016, Mrs. Clinton was widely expected to become the first female US president, before a shock defeat by Mr. Trump. 

Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani

  •  Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani jumped six positions to rank 13th on Forbes World's Billionaire list that was again topped by Jeff Bezos.
  • E-commerce colossus Amazon founder Bezos, remains the world's richest person, ahead of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, as his riches swelled by USD 19 billion in one year and is now worth USD 131 billion.
  • Ambani's wealth soared from USD 40.1 billion in 2018 to USD 50 billion to be rank at 13th in 2019.

Baijayant Panda Joins BJP

  •  Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Baijayant Jay Panda joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Juel Oram and other senior party leaders.
  • Panda, a four-time member of Parliament, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kendrapara constituency of Odisha in 2014. He was suspended from the BJD for "anti-party activities" on January 24, 2018.
  • Panda quit the party in May 2018, two weeks after he tendered his resignation as the Lok Sabha member.

Savitri Bai Phule Joins Congress

  •  Lok Sabha member Savitri Bai Phule, who had resigned from the BJP, joined the Congress party in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
  • Ms. Phule had quit the BJP after accusing it of being an anti-Dalit party.
  • She is the first prominent politician to join the Congress after Ms. Vadra was appointed party general secretary.
  • Another prominent leader who joined the Congress was Rakesh Sachan, a former Member of Parliament of the Samajwadi Party (SP).
  • Known to be a close to Samajwadi patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and an important leader to channelise Kurmi votes in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Sachan quit in protest against the alliance between the SP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Rajeev Kumar Gets Additional Charge

  •  The West Bengal government has given additional charge of the State directorate of economic offences and the special task force (STF) of the Kolkata police to former city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar.
  • Mr. Kumar, who was questioned by the CBI in connection with chit fund scam cases, is presently the State CID chief.

Air Marshal Hari Kumar Retires

  • Air Marshal Chandrashekharan Hari Kumar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command Indian Air Force retired on 28 February 2019 after an illustrious career spanning over 39 years.
  • The Air Marshal was commissioned in Flying Branch of Indian Air Force in the year 1979. He was a Qualified Flying Instructor and a Fighter Combat Leader having
  • more than 3300 hours of flying to his credit. During his meritorious service to the nation, he had done instructional tenures at Fighter Training Wing, Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) and College of Air Warfare.
  • For his distinguished service to the Nation, he was awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vayu Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal and appointed Honorary Air Force ADC to President of India on 01 Jan 2017.

Abhinandan Varthaman Freed

  • Indian Air Force fighter pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was freed by Pakistan, two days after his MiG-21 fighter jet came down in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
  • Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was handed over to India as per standard operating procedure of the IAF.
  • He was taken for a detailed medical checkup because the officer has had to eject from an aeroplane, which could have put his entire body under great stress.

Rajvardhan Azad Chairman of Bihar University Commission

  • Bihar government appointed Dr. Rajvardhan Azad, former chief and professor of ophthalmology at the All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, as the chairman of the revived Bihar state university service commission, which will carry out appointment of teachers in the understaffed universities of state.
  • Azad, who received the prestigious BC Roy National Award for eminent medical Teacher by Medical Council of India in 1987, will have tenure of three years from the date of notification or till the age of 72 years.

Adhia Appointed as Non-executive Chairman

  • Former Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia was appointed as non-executive chairman of State-run Bank of Baroda for three years. Dr. Adhia superannuated as Finance Secretary in November 2017.
  • His appointment in the Bank of Baroda comes in midst of the bank's merger with two other state lenders, Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank.
  • The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued notification for Dr. Adhia's appointment after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared his name.

Gill Takes Over as MD & CEO of Yes Bank

  • Former India chief of Deutsche Bank Ravneet Gill took charge as the managing director and chief executive officer of private sector lender Yes Bank. He will have a three-year term.
  • Mr. Gill succeeds Rana Kapoor, the co-founder of the bank, whose term ended on January 31, 2019. Mr. Ajai Kumar, one of the board members, was appointed as the interim CEO after Mr. Kapoor's term ended. Yes Bank decided to search for a new chief executive after the RBI declined to extend Mr. Kapoor's tenure beyond January 31, 2019, though the board had endorsed a three-year extension.
