In a major setback to the Congress in Maharashtra, Dr. Sujay Vikhe-Patil, son of senior Congressman and Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who announced that his name was being recommended to the central Parliamentary Board as candidate from Ahmednagar South Lok Sabha seat.

Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi Announces New Political Outfit
MP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebel leader Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi announced his political outfit 'Nava Punjab Party' which will be part of the Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA).
The development comes a day after the Election Commission announced schedule for the parliamentary elections.
Dr Gandhi will contest from Patiala as candidate of PDA that comprises Sukhpal Singh Khaira's Punjabi Ekta Party, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) of the Bains brothers, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India, and the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP).
Gujarat Congress MLA Resigns
A day ahead of the Congress Working Committee meeting in Gujarat , Jamnagar (Rural) MLA Vallabh Dharaviya quit the party and tendered his resignation from the Assembly to Speaker Rajendra Trivedi.
Dharaviya's is the third resignation of a Congress MLA in the past four days.
The BJP now has 100 MLAs in the 182-member House while the Congress has 71 MLAs.

Hasmukh Adhia Appointed Chancellor
Hasmukh Adhia, who earlier served as the Finance Secretary in the Finance Ministry, has been appointed Chancellor of the Gujarat Central University.
Hasmukh Adhia's appointment as the Chancellor of Gujarat Central University comes days before the Model Code of Conduct is enforced ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Hasmukh Adhia, who earlier served as Revenue Secretary, was appointed Finance Secretary by the Union Government in November 2017.
Chavda Made Gujarat Minister
Jawahar Chavda, a former senior legislator of the Congress in Gujarat, was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister, a day after he resigned as an MLA and joined the BJP.
Yogesh Patel and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, MLAs, were sworn in as Ministers of State at the function. All three leaders were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor O.P. Kohli.
Mr. Chavda, a prominent face of the Congress in Junagadh district who had been elected to the Assembly four times since 1990, will now have to contest a byelection to get re-elected.

Ashu Khullar CEO of Citi India
Ashu Khullar, currently the head of Asia Pacific Capital Markets Origination at Citigroup Inc., has been named CEO of Citi India, with effect from April 1.
The appointment is subject to Reserve Bank of India's approval.
He will replace Pramit Jhaveri, who has had a nine-year stint as Citi India CEO. Mr. Jhaveri is set to become the vice-chairman of Citi group's banking, capital markets and advisory business for Asia Pacific.
Mr. Khullar was earlier co-head for Citi's corporate banking for Europe, Africa and Middle East.

White House Communications Director Bill Shine has resigned as Donald Trump's top White House communications aide and will move to work on the U.S. President's 2020 re-election campaign.
Bill Shine, a former Fox News executive was named to the top White House communications job in July, 14 months after he left the network amid charges that he failed to take effective steps to deal with sexual misconduct at the channel.
Rajasekharan Resigns as Mizoram Governor
Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan resigned from his post and is set to fight for election to the Lok Sabha as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram constituency, which has twice elected the Congress's Shashi Tharoor to the House.
Jay Panda is BJP Vice-president
BJP president Amit Shah appointed Baijayant Jay Panda, who joined the party after quitting the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), as vice-president and national spokesperson.
Mr. Panda is a two-term Lok Sabha member and a former Rajya Sabha member.

Soumya Swaminathan is WHO Chief Scientist
