Indian Army showcases 22 Top Innovations at Inno-Yoddha 2024-25

  • The Indian Army held its annual Idea and Innovation Competition -- Inno-Yoddha 2024-25 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. The event presided over by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi celebrated in-house innovations aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, logistics, and training capabilities.
  • According to an army official, 75 innovations, selected through rigorous evaluation from unit to Command Headquarters levels, were fielded this year.
  • Among them, 22 outstanding innovations were showcased and felicitated during the event, which will now proceed towards production under the Army Design Bureau's guidance, aligning with the Indian Army's commitment to fostering an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.

Adani Defence Delivers 2nd Drishti-10 Drone to Indian Navy for Maritime Security

  • Adani Defence delivered the second Drishti-10 Starliner surveillance drone to the Indian Navy, enhancing the nation's maritime capabilities. This marks a significant leap in India's indigenous defence technology, underscoring the country's focus on self-reliance. The Drishti-10 drone is a highly advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform designed to monitor vast maritime territories, mitigate piracy, and provide over-the-horizon surveillance with unmatched endurance.
  • The Drishti-10 Starliner drone, manufactured at Adani Defence's Hyderabad facility, offers a 36-hour endurance and a 450 kg payload capacity. It is the only all-weather military UAV certified with NATO's STANAG 4671 for airworthiness, allowing it to operate in both segregated and unsegregated airspace. The platform supports persistent multi-payload, fully autonomous capabilities and satellite communication-based operations, crucial for monitoring maritime threats.

India, UK Convene Second 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue in New Delhi

  • The second India-UK 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue convened in New Delhi, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Piyush Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Europe West, Ministry of External Affairs, and Vishwesh Negi, Joint Secretary, International Cooperation, Ministry of Defence.
  • Representing the UK were Ben Mellor, India Director, Indian Ocean Directorate, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and Shimon Fhima, Director Strategic Programmes, Ministry of Defence.
  • Both delegations reviewed progress under the India-UK Roadmap 2030 and emphasised revitalising the partnership by identifying new areas of collaboration.

Indian Defence Companies Showcase Indigenous Capabilities to Saudi Military

  • In a strategic move to strengthen defence ties and expand exports, leading Indian private sector defence companies presented their products and weapon systems to the Saudi military in a special program organised by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. The event highlighted India's growing defence manufacturing capabilities and its commitment to fostering international defence collaborations under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative. 
  • The program, facilitated by the Indian Embassy, is part of a broader initiative to bolster defence cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia. It reflects the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, which extends beyond trade and energy into defence and security. 
  • Saudi Arabia, one of the world's largest defence markets, has been keen on diversifying its suppliers and fostering industrial collaborations as part of its Vision 2030 initiative. The presentation by Indian companies aligns with Saudi Arabia's goals of strengthening local defence manufacturing while exploring advanced, cost-effective, and reliable solutions from global partners. 

Joint Exercise Between Indian, Cambodian Armies

  • The inaugural edition of the joint table top exercise CINBAX between the Indian Army and Cambodian Army, which comprises the conduct of wargame on joint counterterrorism operations, is being conducted at a foreign training node in Pune. The exercise includes discussions on information operations, cyber warfare and hybrid warfare among other facets of modern warfare.
  • The exercise, being conducted from December 1 to 8, comprises 20 personnel each from an Infantry Brigade, from Cambodian Army contingent and Indian Army contingent.

MoD Inks Contract Worth Rs. 1207 crore with Cochin Shipyard Limited

  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited on 30th Nov 2024 for Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) of INS Vikramaditya at an overall cost of Rs. 1207.5 crore.
  • INS Vikramaditya is an Indian Aircraft Carrier commissioned in the Indian Navy in November 2013. After completion of the Refit, INS Vikramaditya will join the active fleet of the Indian Navy with upgraded combat capability.
  • This project is an important step towards development of Cochin Shipyard Limited as Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Hub for supporting the industrial ecosystem of India. The project envisages the involvement of nearly 50 MSMEs and would lead to employment generation for more than 3500 personnel.

India Malaysia Joint Military Exercise Harimau Shakti

  • The joint military exercise between India and Malaysia, Harimau Shakti 2024, is taking place from December 2 to 15 at the Bentong Camp in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
  • This year (2024), the bilateral military exercise is themed around the motto, 'Two nations, one mission: Ensuring global peace.'
  • The objective of Exercise Harimau Shakti is to further strengthen interoperability between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army in conducting sub-conventional operations under the UN mandate.

PM Attends Three-day All-India Security Conference in Odisha

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the all-India conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar. This conference was held at Lok Seva Bhawan for three days.
  • The conference was attended by key dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among others.
  • Director Generals of Police and heads of security agencies from across the country also attended the meet in Odisha for the annual DGP conference. The conference focused on national security challenges and the evolving responsibilities of police forces.
