Indian Army Celebrates 77th Anniversary of Poonch's Historic Link-Up

  • Approximately 5,000 veterans participated in a grand event in Poonch to mark the 77th anniversary of the historic military link-up of Poonch, a border district in Jammu and Kashmir, with the rest of the country.
  • The Poonch Link-Up Day is a significant event in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, commemorating the Indian Army's successful conclusion of a gruelling 15-month siege of Poonch on this day in 1948 under the leadership of the revered Brigadier Pritam Singh.

India-Russia 22nd Working Group Meeting on Military Technical Cooperation

  • The 22nd meeting of the India-Russia Working Group on Military technical cooperation and defence industry was held in New Delhi.
  • The meeting was co-chaired by Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary, Defence Production, Ministry of Defence and A. Boytsov, First Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation of Russia.
  • India and Russia have an institutionalised structure to oversee the complete range of issues of military and military-technical cooperation. The inaugural India-Russia 2+2 Dialogue (set up in 2021) was held in Delhi.

India, Australia Firm Up Air-to-Air Refuelling Arrangement for Military Aircraft

  • India and Australia firmed up an arrangement to enable the air forces of the two countries to carry out air-to-air refuelling, a move expected to increase the Indian military's reach in the Indo-Pacific region. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Australian counterpart Pat Conroy MP announced the arrangement at a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of a regional security conclave in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos.
  • Under the arrangement, the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) air-to-air refuelling aircraft -- the KC-30A multi-role tanker transport -- will be able to refuel Indian military planes.

Bharat NCX 2024 Fortifying India's Cyber Defence

  • The Bharat National Cyber Security Exercise (Bharat NCX 2024), a landmark initiative to fortify India's cybersecurity resilience, was inaugurated in New Delhi at a high-profile ceremony organised by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU). The 12-day exercise, which concludes on November 29, is a critical step in preparing India's cybersecurity professionals and leadership to tackle evolving threats with advanced cyber defence, incident response capabilities, and strategic decision-making.

Indian Army Successfully Concludes Multi Agency Disaster Relief Exercise 'Sanyukt Vimochan 2024'

  • The Indian Army successfully conducted the Multilateral Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, 'Sanyukt Vimochan 2024'. General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff attended this significant event which showcased India's disaster response readiness.
  • The exercise conducted by the Konark Corps of Southern Command of Indian Army, was conducted over two days November 18 to 19, 2024 at Ahmedabad and Porbandar, Gujarat. The inaugural event of the exercise at Ahmedabad featured a Table Top Exercise, focusing on the theme of 'Cyclone in Coastal Region of Gujarat'. Representatives from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), Meteorological Department and FICCI attended the event along with Indian Armed Forces officials. The second day witnessed Multi-Agency Capability Demonstration held at Chowpatty Beach at Porbandar on 19 November 24.

Japan Agrees to Provide its Integrated Antenna System, UNICORN, to the Indian Naval Ships

  • A Memorandum of Implementation was signed at the Embassy of India, Tokyo between Govt of India and Govt of Japan, for co-development of UNICORN mast for fitment onboard Ships of Indian Navy.
  • The MOI was signed and exchanged between the Ambassador of India to Japan, H.E. Sibi George and Mr. Ishikawa Takeshi, Commissioner of Acquisition Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) under Japan MoD in a ceremony at Tokyo.
  • The Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) is a mast with Integrated Communication systems which will help improve the stealth characteristics of Naval Platforms.
  • The Indian Navy is pursuing the induction of these advanced systems which will be co-developed by Bharat Electronics Limited in India with Japanese collaboration.
  • When implemented, this would be the first case of co-development / co-production of Defence Equipment between India and Japan.
