BAE Systems, L&T Join Hands

  • A global company and an Indian firm joined hands to bring the world-leading Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV), the 'BvS10', to the Indian defence market. BAE Systems and Larsen & Toubro teamed up to bring the AATV to the country under the 'Make in India' programme.
  • The two companies have signed an agreement to offer the BvS10 for an Indian armed forces programme.
  • Under the agreement, L&T is the prime bidder for the Indian market, with the support of BAE Systems Hagglunds, the Swedish manufacturer of the highly successful BvS10 family of vehicles.

Naval Group India Opens a New Workshop in Karwar to Help Indian Navy Submarines

  • Naval Group India started working at its brand-new workshop in Karwar, Karnataka and their main job is to support the Indian Navy's Kalvari class submarines. This is a big deal because Naval Group India is the first company that designs equipment that goes onboard the submarines to set up a workshop like this in Karwar. This workshop is part of the Indian government's plan called INS Kadamba, also known as Project SeaBird.
  • This workshop houses necessary tools and trained Indian engineers to provide time-bound services together with the support from our qualified partners – Indian Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Army Showcases New Defence Technology, Weapons at North Tech Symposium in Jammu

  • A three-day North Tech Symposium showcasing new Defence Technology, made in India Defence equipment and weapons, commenced at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu.
  • The Indian Army's latest Light Specialist Vehicles (LSVs) were also showcased at the North Tech Symposium.
  • New types of off-road and all-terrain vehicles acquired by the Indian Army for operations in rugged terrains in the Ladakh sector and near the Line of Control were showcased at the North Tech Symposium organised by the Northern Command of the Indian Army.

Armenia Holds Drills with US amid Rift with Russia

  • Joint military drills between Armenian and US forces, 'Exercise Eagle Partner's' kicked off, the latest sign of Yerevan drifting from Moscow's orbit as Russia's invasion of Ukraine reshapes post-Soviet relations.
  • The exercises came amid mounting frustration in Armenia over what it sees as Russia's failure to act as a security guarantor amid mounting tensions with its historic rival Azerbaijan.
  • As per Armenia's defence ministry, the exercises aimed to increase the level of interoperability with US forces in international peacekeeping missions.
  • The exercise would conclude on September 20.

Indian Coast Guard Participates in Asian Maritime Security Meet in Istanbul

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) participated in the 19th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) in Turkey's Istanbul that took place in September. Director General Rakesh Pal led the ICG delegation, which consists of four members.
  • As per information, during the three-day meet, a series of vital issues, including, maritime law enforcement, safety and security of life at sea, marine environment protection, illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons, and humans at sea etc were discussed.
  • The HACGAM is an annual event hosted by one of its member nations on a rotational basis. In 2022, the 18th edition of the meeting was hosted by the ICG in New Delhi.
  • The forum, which has 23-member coast guard agencies and two associate members - Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - was initiated by Japan to promote cooperation among regional coast guards.
  • It was established in 2004.

Myanmar Receives First Shipment of Russia's Su-30 fighter Jets

  • Myanmar received the first shipment of two Russian Su-30 fighter jets, Charlie Than, Myanmar's Trade Minister said.
  • Russia and Myanmar signed a contract in September 2022 for the delivery of six Su-30SME fighter jets.
  • The Sukhoi Su-30SME multi-role fighter jet is designed for enemy's aerial targets engagement, aerial reconnaissance, combat employment and pilot training, according to Rosoboronexport, Russia's state-controlled arms exporter.

IAF Chief in Spain Receives First C-295 Transport Plane for India

  • Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari- the chief of the Indian Air Force, was in Spain where he received the first C-295 transport plane made for India by global aircraft manufacturer Airbus for India at a facility in Seville.
  • The Indian Air Force signed a contract for 56 of these planes of which 16 would be made in Spain while the remaining 40 would be produced by the joint venture of Tata and Airbus in their facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.
  • The IAF chief would receive the first aircraft from Airbus at their facility in Seville, Spain.
