First ever India-Oman Defence Industrial Seminar

The first ever India-Oman Defence Industrial Seminar was held in Muscat.
The seminar provided an opportunity for government owned, and private defence companies from India to come together with officials from the Ministries of Defence, Fisheries & Agriculture, Transport Communication & IT, from Sultanate of Oman to hold productive discussions on cooperation in defence production and procurement.
The Indian MoD was represented by Sanjay Mehrishi, Deputy Director General (Exports), Ministry of Defence (Department of Defence Production), who also provided an overview of the advances made by India in the field of defence production.
The seminar received an unprecedented response from Indian companies with 23 Indian public and private companies represented, reflecting the enthusiasm amongst them to partner and collaborate with Oman and to support Sultan's Armed Forces and Civil Defence Agencies in addressing their requirements.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Mega Drone Show at Hindon Airbase In UP

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a mega drone show hosted at the Hindon airbase Hindan Air Base in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district.
The show, Bharat Drone Shakti 2023, was jointly organised by the Indian Air Force and Drone Federation of India (DFI).
The two-day event showcased the prowess of India's drone industry at full capacity hosting over 50+ live aerial demonstrations.
On display would be survey drones, agriculture drones, fire suppression drones, tactical surveillance drones, heavy-lift logistics drones, loitering munition systems, drone swarms, and counter-drone solutions.

Delhi to Host over 30 Countries at Indo-Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference

The national capital will host over 30 countries for the Indo-Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference from September 25 to 27.
The event is aimed at exchanging views and developing mutual understanding among the Indo-Pacific partners.
The conference will be a platform to exchange ideas and views on security, promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and develop mutual understanding and dialogue amongst the Indo-Pacific partners.
More than 20 Chiefs of friendly Armies are expected to take part in the main event including countries like the US, France and the UK.

Indian Army's Annual Parade at Lucknow in January 2024

The Army decided that its annual parade will be conducted in Lucknow in January 2024.
Lucknow is the headquarters of the Army's Central Command that has been tasked with, among other areas, strengthening its position along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
In January 2023, the parade was conducted in Bengaluru, making it the first such Army Day Parade outside the Capital. A decision was taken to rotate the Army Day Parade venue across different cities in India.

Sri Lanka Signs Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

Sri Lanka signed the instrument of accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in the United Nations headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Ali Sabry deposited the instrument of accession. The TPNW prohibits state parties from developing, testing, producing, manufacturing, acquiring, possessing or stockpiling nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.
The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), or the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty, is the first legally binding international agreement to comprehensively prohibit nuclear weapons with the ultimate goal being their total elimination. It was adopted on July 7, 2017, opened for signature on September 20, 2017, and entered into force on January 22, 2021.

Israel Unveils 5th Generation Merkava Battle Tank

Israel unveiled the next generation main battle tank Merkava Mark 5, also known as 'Barak', which translates to 'lightning' in Hebrew, which has incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and electronically controlled weapons.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the Barak tank, represents an exceptional leap forward and showcases the military's technological capabilities, once again ensuring its qualitative advantage.
The tank, also known as the Merkava Mark 5 tank, is expected to become operational by the end of 2023 and will gradually replace the Merkava Mark 4, which currently forms the backbone of the Israeli armored corps, according to a separate statement from the military.

ASEAN Kicks Off its First-ever Joint Military Drills in Indonesia

Units from the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held their inaugural joint military exercises in Indonesia's South Natuna Sea. These drills came at a time of escalating geopolitical tensions between major global powers and rising concerns over China's activities in the South China Sea.
The five-day military operation, which took place in the South Natuna Sea, primarily focused on enhancing military skills. These skills encompassed areas such as maritime security, patrols, and the distribution of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. According to the Indonesian military, this exercise aimed to promote regional stability and cooperation among ASEAN members.
All ten member nations of ASEAN, including prospective member East Timor, participated in these joint military drills. The decision to hold this collaborative exercise underscored the commitment of ASEAN countries to maintain regional stability and enhance their collective security. It also sent a strong signal of unity among member states in the face of rising geopolitical tensions.

Second Edition of Indian Navy's Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar (SWAVLAMBAN-2023)

The Indian Navy is set to host the second edition of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation (NIIO) Seminar, known as 'Swavlamban 2023,' scheduled to take place on October 4 and 5, 2023. This event follows the maiden edition of the seminar, which was held in July 2022 and marked a significant milestone in the Navy's quest for innovation and self-reliance.
In the inaugural edition of 'Swavlamban' in 2022, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 'SPRINT' initiative, which has since become a driving force behind the Indian Navy's pursuit of indigenous technology adoption. 'SPRINT' stands for Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), NIIO, and Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC). This collaborative effort aims to foster innovation and indigenisation in the defence sector.
