Indian Air Force and Drone Federation of India to Co-host Bharat Drone Shakti 2023

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) is collaborating with the Drone Federation of India to co-host 'Bharat Drone Shakti 2023.' This upcoming event, scheduled for the 25th and 26th of September 2023, will take place at the IAF's airbase in Hindan (Ghaziabad). It is anticipated to be a pioneering exhibition highlighting the prowess of the Indian drone industry, with more than 50 live aerial demonstrations.

North Korea Launches First 'Tactical Nuclear Attack Submarine'

  • North Korea launched its first 'tactical nuclear attack submarine' which has been built as part of its plan to strengthen its naval force.
  • The unveiling ceremony was presided over by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who said that the new submarine was part of a push forward with the nuclear weaponization of the Navy in the future.
  • The submarine's launch, which has been named the 'Hero Kim Kun Ok', heralded the beginning of a new chapter for bolstering up the naval force of the DPRK.

Second Barge of LSAM 16 Series Delivered to Navy

  • The Indian Navy said that the second barge of the LSAM 16 (Yard 126) series built by a private firm was delivered to it, and its induction will provide impetus to the operational commitments of the naval force by facilitating transportation of articles, ammunition to ships.
  • The barge delivered in Mumbai has been built under the classification rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) with a service life of 30 years. With all major and auxiliary equipment/ systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, the Barge is proud flag bearer of 'Make in India' initiatives of the Ministry of Defence.

  • The Maritime Partnership Exercise between Indian Navy ship and Sri Lanka Navy ship concluded at Port City, Sri Lanka. The visit concluded at sea off Colombo between INS Delhi and SLN ship Vijayabahu. A clean-up drive at Crow Island beach was jointly undertaken by the visiting ship's crew and personnel from Sri Lanka Navy Ship. As part of 'Arogya Maitri', initiative, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka presented a state-of-the-art Arogya Maitri Cube to the Hon'ble speaker of Sri Lanka Parliament during a reception hosted onboard INS Delhi. Senior government officials including the Minister for Ports, Shipping and Aviation, the Attorney General Secretary General of defence and all three service chiefs attended.

Second Edition of Naval Commanders' Conference 2023 Held in New Delhi

  • The Naval Commander Conference 2023 was held in New Delhi from September 4 to 6.
  • The Conference is the apex-level biannual event facilitating interaction between the Naval Commanders for deliberation and formulation of important policy decisions. The three-day conference was held in hybrid format. The senior leadership of the Indian Navy, under the Chairmanship of the Chief of the Naval Staff, reviewed major operational, materiel, logistics, HR, training, and administrative activities undertaken during the previous six months.
  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Naval Commanders during the conference and interacted with them. The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) also attended the event.

IPS Officer Yogesh Bahadur Khurania is Head of BSF's Western Command

  • Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service officer of Odisha, assumed charge as the Special Director-General of the Border Security Force's (BSF), Western Command, in Chandigarh. He is responsible for the management of the entire border with Pakistan as well as the administration and deployment of BSF manpower and assets in the Western Sector.
  • Prior to this, he was serving as Special Director-General (Operations) at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi. He took over from P. V. Rama Sastry, who has been posted to force's headquarters in his place.
