Chandrayaan-2 Completes 2 Years in Lunar Orbit

The Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation K. Sivan inaugurated a Lunar Science Workshop 2021, to commemorate the completion of two years of operation of Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft around the lunar orbit.
Chandrayaan-2 data product and science documents were released by Sivan, also Secretary in the Department of Space (DoS), along with data from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter payloads.
The eight payloads onboard Chandrayaan-2 are conducting scientific observations of the moon by remote sensing and in-situ techniques.

SpaceX's First All-civilian Mission to Launch on September 15

SpaceX, run by tech billionaire Elon Musk-run, is all set to launch to orbit its first all-civilian mission Inspiration4 on September 15.
Early this year in February, SpaceX announced the charity-driven mission named Inspiration4, which will be commanded by tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman and will have three others.
They will orbit the planet aboard SpaceX`s Crew Dragon capsule every 90 minutes along a customised flight path. Upon conclusion of the three-day journey, Dragon will re-enter Earth`s atmosphere for a soft water landing off the coast of Florida.

IISc-ISRO Develop Device to Conduct Microbial Experiments in Outer Space

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have developed a modular, self-contained device to cultivate microorganisms, which could enable scientists to carry out biological experiments in outer space.
The team showed how the device can be used to activate and track the growth of a bacterium called 'Sporosarcina pasteurii ' over several days, with minimal human involvement.
The device developed by the IISc and ISRO team uses a LED and photodiode sensor combination to track bacterial growth by measuring the optical density or scattering of light, similar to spectrophotometers used in the lab. It also has separate compartments for different experiments.

Samsung Emerges as India's No. 1 Smartwatch Brand

Samsung emerged as India's biggest smartwatch manufacturer in the second quarter ending June 2021.
According to International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker, Samsung's smartwatch shipments registered 860 per cent year-on-year growth, catapulting the company to number one position in India.
Riding on the popularity of Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Watch 3 Series, Samsung ended the June quarter with 41.2 per cent volume market share.

NASA's Perseverance Rover Successfully Collects First Rock from Mars

NASA's newest Mars rover has successfully collected its first rock sample for return to Earth, after last month's attempt came up empty.
The Perseverance rover's chief engineer, Adam Stelzner, called it a perfect core sample.
A month ago, Perseverance drilled into much softer rock, and the sample crumbled and didn't get inside the titanium tube. The rover drove a half-mile to a better sampling spot to try again. Team members analyzed data and pictures before declaring success.

S. Korea Passes Bill to Curb Google, Apple's in-app Fee Monopolies

The South Korean parliament passed a bill that would rein in the dominance Google and Apple exert over payments on their respective app stores. It became the first nation in the world to enact such a law.
The South Korean lawmakers voted to approve the amendments to the Telecommunications Business Act, which bars app market operators from forcing certain payment systems on mobile content businesses by abusing their market positions.
The move comes amid growing global scrutiny of Google and Apple, who maintain a strong grip over mobile ecosystems, for requiring developers on their app stores to use their proprietary payment systems that charge fees of up to 30 per cent when users purchase digital goods within apps.
