ISRO's Commercial Arm NSIL Announces First Demand Driven Satellite Mission
ISRO's commercial arm, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) announced its first "demand-driven" communication satellite mission as part of Space reforms announced by the Government in June last year.
NSIL, incorporated in March 2019, got mandated to undertake operational satellite missions on a demand driven model, wherein it has the responsibility to build, launch, own and operate the satellite and provide services to its committed customer.
As part of this initiative, NSIL, a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), under the Department of Space (DOS), is now undertaking its "1st demand driven communication satellite mission named GSAT-24, a four-tonne class Ku- band satellite.
NSIL is getting this satellite built by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) and will be launching it using Ariane-5 launcher operated by Arianespace.

Facebook's 2Africa to Become World's Longest Subsea Cable
Facebook has announced a new segment of subsea cable called 2Africa Pearls, which connects three continents - Africa, Europe, and Asia. This extension will bring the total length of the 2Africa cable system to more than 45,000 km, making it the longest subsea cable system ever deployed.
The 2Africa initiative's goal, as its name suggests, is to provide internet connectivity to people in Africa, which is currently the world's least connected continent.
The 2Africa subsea cable system will provide nearly three times the total network capacity of all the subsea cables serving Africa today. With 2Africa, the social media giant had planned to increase connectivity to 1.2 billion people.

NASA's Lucy Mission
American Space Agency, NASA, is set to send its first spacecraft to study Jupiter's Trojan asteroids.
Spacecraft will be launched from "Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida" on October 16, 2021.
This spacecraft would obtain new insights into the formation of solar system 4.5 billion years ago.
The spacecraft has been named as Lucy. It was named after an ancient fossil which provided insights into the evolution of human species.
Mission Lucy will be launched with the objective of investigating the group of rocky bodies that are circling the sun in two swarms- one preceding Jupiter and the other trailing behind it.
Trojans are small celestial bodies or asteroids, sharing the orbit of larger one. They remain in a stable orbit, nearly 60° ahead or behind the main body. The Jupiter trojans, commonly called Trojan asteroids or simply Trojans, are a large group of asteroids that share the planet Jupiter's orbit around the sun.

Russia Plans to Launch 2 Manned Missions to International Space Station in 2022
Russian Space Agency Roscosmos, in association with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is all set to launch 5 spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) in the first half of 2022. The missions will include 2 manned flights in Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft to the ISS on March 18, 2022. Additionally, three cargo missions in Progress MS 19, scheduled for February 15, 2022.
The Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft will take flight with astronauts Oleg Artrmyev, Denis Maryeyev, and Sergey Karsakov onboard. Following this, another Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft will carry astronauts Sergey Prokopyev, Anna Kikina and Dimitry Petelin to the ISS.

India's Mars Probe Completes 7 Years in Orbit
India's Mars Orbiter spacecraft has completed seven years in its orbit, well beyond its designed mission life of six months.
"Indeed, a satisfying feeling," K. Radhakrishnan who as the then Chairman of Indian Space Research Oranisation (ISRO) led the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM, also called Mangalyaan) team told on the milestone. MOM is the maiden interplanetary mission of ISRO.
Launched on November 5, 2013, the probe was successfully inserted into Martian orbit on September 24, 2014 in its first attempt.
NASA Launches Landsat 9 Satellite to Boost Climate Change Monitoring
NASA's Landsat 9 satellite was successfully launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The satellite will monitor the Earth's land surface and provide data to assist in climate change planning.
It lifted off on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex 3E, following which the Landsat 9 observatory successfully separated from the vehicle.
The launch marks nearly 50 years of Landsat presence in space. The first launch was in 1972 – since then, a Landsat has always remained in orbit. The Landsat 9 will join previously-launched Landsat 8 to collect images across Earth every eight days. NASA said that these images assist research on monitoring forests, agriculture, quality of water, health of coral reef habitats, and behaviour of glaciers.
