TRUTH Social: Donald Trump's New Social Media Platform

  • Former US President, Donald Trump, launched his own social media network called "TRUTH Social".
  • This platform was launched after Donald Trump faced bans from Facebook and Twitter.
  • Trump's social media platform will stand up to the pattern of Big Tech.
  • This app is the first project of "Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG)" following its merger with Digital World Acquisition Group. Former US President, Trump, is the chairman of the group.
  • Former President of United States launched this platform as his social media accounts either got temporarily suspended or even banned due to his controversial posts. Accounts were suspended following the attack on the Capitol back in January 2021.

Scientists Create most Detailed Map of Uranus' Mysterious Auroras

  • Scientists have imaged the whole globe of Uranus in the infrared part of the light spectrum for the first time, hoping to shed light on the planet's mysterious auroras and weird magnetic field.
  • The scientists, based at the University of Leicester in the U.K., used NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) in Hawaii to look at the odd ice giant that orbits the sun 19 times farther away than Earth does.
  • Just like on Earth, auroras on Uranus are triggered by the interaction of the solar wind, the stream of charged particles emanating from the sun, with the planet's magnetic field. But because so much is different about Uranus compared to our planet, these auroras behave very differently than the Earth's famous northern and southern polar lights.

Facebook Files: 'Orchestrated' Media Campaign Behind New Leaks, Alleges Company

  • Facebook continued its pushback against what it called "mischaracterisation" by the media over the "Facebook Files" series of Wall Street Journal exposes that allegedly reveal internal documents broadly holding the company accountable for prioritising its own growth over the safety of users.
  • In a carefully crafted response posted from the Facebook Newsroom Twitter handle to fend off the bad press, the company accused media organisations of reportage which "misrepresents" its actions and motivations.
  • A curated selection out of millions of documents at Facebook can in no way be used to draw fair conclusions about us. Internally, we share work in progress and debate options. Not every suggestion stands up to the scrutiny we must apply to decisions affecting so many people.

Telangana Develops India's First Smartphone-based eVoting Solution

  • Telangana has developed India's first smartphone-based eVoting solution considering the Covid-19 pandemic. The system will undergo a dry run in the form of a dummy election being conducted in Khammam district with the registration on the application open from October 8-18 and the dummy voting on October 20.
  • The eVoting solution has been developed by Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) with the implementation support of the Emerging Technologies Wing of the IT Department of the State and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).

Lucy NASA's Spacecraft on 12-year Cruise to Trojan Asteroids

  • NASA's newest asteroid probe, named Lucy, blasted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to embark on a 12-year mission to study two different clusters of asteroids around Jupiter known as Trojans.
  • These swarms represent the final unexplored regions of asteroids in the solar system. Lucy, acting as a robotic archaeologist, will help to answer questions about how the giant planets formed.
  • Lucy will spend the next six years cruising through the solar system, looping around the Earth twice in order to build up enough momentum to reach Jupiter. The spacecraft will fly by a total of eight different asteroids (seven Trojans, which are located in two separate swarms, ahead of and behind the massive planet in its orbit, and one main belt) in order to help scientists better understand how the solar system evolved. Researchers believe that the Trojans are perfectly preserved cosmic time capsules and hope that studying them could shed more light on the origin of the solar system and how the giant planets formed.

China Sends 3 Astronauts on 6-month Mission

  • Changzheng-2F, the Chinese launch vehicle, with manned spacecraft Shenzhou-13 was launched to the Tiangong space station.
  • There are three taikonauts on board.
  • The launch took place from the Jiuquan cosmodrome in Gansu province in northwestern China.
  • The Shenzhou 13 crew will spend at least 180 days at the station.
  • The crew included Zhai Zhigang, female taikonaut Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu.

Jupiter-Mass Exoplanet Found Orbiting White Dwarf

  • Using a technique called gravitational microlensing, which occurs when a star close to Earth momentarily aligns with a more distant star, astronomers discovered a giant exoplanet in a Jupiter-like orbit around a white dwarf star. Located at approximately 2,000 parsecs (6,523 light-years) towards the center of our Milky Way Galaxy, this system is likely to represent an analogue to the end stages of the Sun and Jupiter in our own Solar System.

India 6th most Affected Country by Ransomware, Says Google

  • A Google report that analysed more than 80 million ransomware samples submitted over the last year and a half revealed that India is at the sixth place in the list of 140 countries most affected by ransomware.
  • Israel was far and away an outlier, with the highest number of submissions and nearly a 600 per cent increase in the number of submissions compared to its baseline.
  • It was followed by South Korea, Vietnam, China, Singapore, India, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Iran, and the UK as the most affected top 10 territories, based on the number of submissions to VirusTotal.
  • Launched in June 2004, VirusTotal was acquired by Google in September 2012. The company's ownership switched in January 2018 to Chronicle Security, a cybersecurity company which is part of Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
