Chhattisgarh To Provide Reservation On The Basis Of Population As Quota Exceeds 100 Per Cent In T...

Chhattisgarh government has decided to give reservations in local appointments on the basis of the caste ratio in a district's population.
The decision taken by the state cabinet was an attempt to overcome the complexity presented by reservations exceeding 100 per cent in some tribal dominated districts.
This decision was taken as there was an increase in the reservation for OBC's to 27 per cent and also the state provided reservation to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Thus, the total percentage of reservation went above 100 percent in some districts.
The minister added that for appointment to the district cadres, reservations to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, OBCs and EWS will be provided as per their population in respective districts.
The state government had earlier in 2019 increased the reservation for the Scheduled Castes by one per cent to 13 per cent and by 13 per cent for the OBCs to 27 per cent, along with introducing 10 per cent quota for the EWS.

Odisha Govt To Partner With Nobel Laureate Abhijit's Lab For Poverty Eradication

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), co-founded by Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, will work in Odisha on poverty, women's empowerment, nutrition and healthcare.
The state government will sign an MoU with J-PAL. Development commissioner Suresh Mohapatra would sign an MoU on behalf of the state government.

OCI Can Now Apply For National Pension System

Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) will now be eligible to apply for the National Pension System at par with Non Resident Indians (NRIs). Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has permitted Overseas Citizen of India to enrol in NPS.
OCI may subscribe to NPS, provided such person is eligible to invest as per the provisions of the PFRDA Act and the accumulated saving will be repatriable, subject to Foreign Exchange Management Act guidelines.

Nagaland Govt Launches Ex-Gratia Scheme For Students

Nagaland Government launched the Nagaland Ex-gratia Scheme for Students Studying outside Nagaland belonging to any recognized scheduled tribes and indigenous inhabitants of the state.
The scheme is targeted for students who die outside the state while pursuing secular, technical, professional, diploma and theology courses.
Launching the scheme at the Directorate of Higher Education in Kohima, Minister of Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along, said it is a historic day for the state and a visionary step taken towards the students' community.
The Minister also assured that the scheme will be implemented in a transparent manner.

Free Bus Ride Scheme Might Be Extended To Senior Citizens

The free-ride scheme for women on Delhi public buses might be extended to senior citizens, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said as the initiative took off.
This scheme will help in women empowerment by bridging the gender gap that exists in society, the chief minister said on his mobile application 'AK App'.
Bus rides for senior citizens and students might be made free too in the coming days, Kejriwal said on the app, which was launched by him ahead of the assembly polls.

New Odisha Initiative: Meal In Exchange For Plastic Waste

In an effort to raise awareness about the perils of using plastic, the Kotpad Notified Area Council (NAC) in Koraput district is providing free meals to the poor in exchange for a kilogram of plastic waste.
The programme entails a meal for anyone who brings a kilogram of used polythene bags, plastic bottles and cups, adding, it is being carried out under the State government's 'Aahar' scheme.

TN Becomes First State To Enact Law On Contract Farming

Tamil Nadu has become the first State in the country to enact a law on contract farming with President Ram Nath Kovind giving assent to the Agricultural Produce and Livestock Contract Farming and Services (Promotion and Facilitation) Act.
The law would safeguard interests of farmers during times of bumper harvest or fluctuating market prices. The farmers would be paid at a pre-determined price, which had been arrived at the time of signing agreements with buyers.

Women in Delhi to Get Free Rides on Public Buses

Women in Delhi will get free rides in public buses as the AAP government is all set to fulfil its promise months ahead of the assembly polls in the national capital.
As per the plan, conductors will distribute pink tickets having face value of Rs 10 each to women passengers for free-travel.
The government will then reimburse the transporters based on the number of such tickets issued.
There are around 3,700 DTC buses and 1,800 buses under the cluster scheme of the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).
