Bihar Governor Clears all 8 Bills Passed by Assembly in Monsoon Session

Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan has given his nod to all the eight Bills passed by the Bihar Assembly during the monsoon session. Now, they will be notified in the Bihar gazette as Acts.
The Bills include Bihar Panchayati Raj (amendment) Bill, 2021, Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) (amendment) Bill, 2021, Bihar Appropriation Bill, 2021 and Bihar goods and services tax (amendment) Bill, 2021.
Four other bills relate to universities and are Aryabhatt Knowledge University (amendment) Bill, 2021; Bihar Health Sciences University Bill, 2021; Bihar Sports University Bill, 2021; and Bihar Engineering University Bill, 2021.

Parliament Passes Bill for Privatisation of State-run General Insurers

A bill to allow privatisation of state-run general insurance companies received parliamentary assent after the Rajya Sabha passed it with a voice vote amid vociferous protest by opposition parties.
The General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021, was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2.

LS Clears Bill to Allow States to Draw up their Own OBC List

Lok Sabha passed a constitutional amendment bill to restore the powers of the states to make their own OBC lists, with 385 members voting in its favour and no member opposing it.
Some amendments moved by opposition members were rejected by the House.
A constitutional amendment bill requires a special majority for passage in both Houses of Parliament.
There should be a majority of the total membership of the House and a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of that House present and voting.

Lok Sabha Passes Three Bills

The government pushed through six Bills, three of which were passed, in the Lok Sabha despite Opposition protests.
The Bills passed are Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
The government also introduced three Bills, including the National Commission for Homoeopathy (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Ladakh Launches 'Pani Maah' to Raise Awareness about Clean Water

'Pani Maah' or water month has been launched in Ladakh to inform villagers about the importance of clean water. The Ladakh government has also announced a reward of Rs. 2.5 million for the first block in each district that achieves the status of 'Har Ghar Jal'. 'Pani Maah' campaign will adopt a three-pronged approach — focussing on water quality testing, planning and strategizing water supply, and seamless functioning of Pani Sabha in villages.
