Forbes 100 World's Highest-paid Celebrities 2020

  • According to the Forbes 100 world's highest-paid celebrities 2020, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar ranked 52nd with estimated earnings of USD 48.5 million (M) and is the only Indian featured on the list.
  • The list is topped by Kylie Jenner, model who earned USD 590M and also topped in the women category, followed by American rapper Kanye West (2nd rank, USD 170M), tennis player Roger Federer (3rd rank, USD 106 M) and football  player Cristiano Ronaldo (4th rank , USD 105 M).
  • The youngest on the list is the 18 year old American Pop musician Billie Eilish(43rd rank, USD 53 M) who is also a newcomer in 2020.
  • The oldest on the list is 77 years old Musician Paul McCartney (91st rank, USD 37 M.

Platinum Recognition in ACI Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2020

  • In Asia-Pacific Annual Green Airport Recognition 2020 Airports Council International (ACI) awarded the highest Platinum Recognition to GMR led Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport (RGHIA) for their effective water management under the 15-35 Million Passengers per annum (MPPA) category.
  • The Green Airport Recognition Programme of ACI promotes the environmental practices that minimise the impacts of the aviation sector on the environment and recognises a member of the ACI Asia-Pacific for their achievement in the projects related to the environment.
  • The focus of Green Airport Recognition 2020 is Water Management.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Wins EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 Award

  • Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, executive chairperson of Biocon Ltd, was named the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year at a virtual award ceremony.
  • Mazumdar-Shaw was picked from among 46 award winners from 41 countries and territories vying for the world title. In the 20-year history of the award, she became the third EY World Entrepreneur of The Year Award winner from India, after Uday Kotak of Kotak Mahindra Bank (2014) and Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies Ltd (2005).

Major Suman Gawani to be Honoured with UN Military Gender Advocate Award

  • Major Suman Gawani, an Indian Army officer and woman peacekeeper who has served with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), has been selected for the prestigious United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award (2019).
  • She has been awarded for her outstanding contribution to peacekeeping efforts in the UNMISS.
  • This is the first time that an Indian peacekeeper is being given the UN Military Gender Advocate award.

Indian-American IBM Scientist Bags Inventor of the Year Award

  • Prolific Indian-American inventor Rajiv Joshi has bagged the prestigious Inventor of the Year award in recognition of his pioneering work in advancing the electronic industry and improving artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Dr Joshi, who is a master inventor with more than 250 patented inventions in the US, works at the IBM Thomson Watson Research Center in New York.
  • He was presented with the prestigious annual award by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association during a virtual award ceremony.

Top UK Award for India's National Hydrographer

  • Vice Admiral Vinay Badhwar has been presented the 2019 Alexander Dalrymple Award in recognition of his "outstanding contribution" to Indian hydrography and across the wider Indian Ocean region.
  • First awarded by the UK Hydrography Office (UKHO) in 2006, the award is named after the first hydrographer of the Admiralty.
  • Recipients are selected for their efforts in raising the standards of hydrography, cartography and navigation around the world.
  • Vice Admiral Badhwar, who joined the Indian Navy in 1982, has extensive hydrographic surveying experience, including work in the Gulfs of Kutch and Khambhat, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands – widely recognised as some of the most challenging environments to survey in the world.

V. Admiral G.M. Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy 2020 Announced

  • Lieutenant Commander Akshay Kumar was awarded the Vice Admiral G.M. Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy for the year 2020.
  • He commissioned in Anti-Submarine Warfare School of the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
  • The award ceremony was held at the Maritime Warfare Centre, Kochi, Kerala.
