Alessandra Korap of the Munduruku tribe in the Amazon was awarded the 2020 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights prize for her work defending the rights, ancestral lands and culture of Indigenous people in Brazil.
The $30,000 award was presented to her by the former U.S. senator's daughter, Kerry Kennedy, in a virtual ceremony from Washington at which keynote speaker former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry praised her courage.
The award draws attention to the struggle of her tribe to stop the building of hydroelectric dams on the Tapajos River, where the Munduruku live, and gain recognition for their reservation lands.

Top Human Rights Award to Belarus Opposition
The European Union has awarded its top human rights prize to the Belarus opposition movement and its leader, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, for their challenge to President Alexander Lukashenko's long, hard-line regime.
The prize will be presented in a ceremony in Strasbourg, France, on Dec 16.
Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Wins Top UK Engineers Body Award
The Mangdechhu Hydroelectric project in Bhutan, constructed by India has been awarded the Brunel Medal 2020 conferred by UK's top engineering body — Institute of Civil Engineers.
The award, named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel who is known as 19th century engineering giant, was announced on October 5.
The Indian and Bhutanese Prime Ministers had jointly inaugurated the 720MW Project on August 17, 2019. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the project a crucial milestone celebrating India-Bhutan ties and this project shows how the two nations working together can bring immense positivity in the lives of people.

Founders of Zomato, PolicyBazaar Win IIT Delhi Alumni Awards 2020
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) announced this year's alumni award in various domains including Distinguished Alumni Award, Distinguished Alumni Service Award and Graduates of Last Decade (GOLD) Award. The Distinguished Alumni Award under Entrepreneurship were presented to co-founder and group CEO of Policy Bazaar Mr. Yashish Dahiya and founder and CEO of Zomato Mr. Deepinder Goyal.
IIT Delhi presented the Distinguished Alumni Award to Professor HV Jagadish of Bernard A Galler Collegiate. The Distinguished Alumni Award was also presented to 1982 batch's Mr. Nemkumar Banthia of Canada Research Chair. Professor Jagadesh and Professor Banthia received the Distinguished Alumni Award for excelling in Teaching and Research.
IGNOU Gets Five Star Rating For Innovations and Startup
The Indira Gandhi National Open University, or IGNOU, has been awarded Five Star Rating for Innovation and Startups by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC) for the year 2019-2020. Out of more than a thousand Universities, Institutes and Colleges including Technical Institutes, only 110 have been awarded Five Star rating.
IGNOU, Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU congratulated all the faculty and staff of the University particularly the NCIDE faculty for taking up several innovative initiatives and said that it is a great achievement for an Open and Distance Learning University.

ISA Solar Awards Conferred for the First Time
For the first time, since the inception of the framework agreement of ISA, the Solar Awards were presented during the third Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to the countries of the region as well as institutions working for solar.
The following are the three categories of awards conferred:
Visvesvaraya Award recognises the countries with a maximum floating solar capacity in each of the four regions of ISA.
Kalpana Chawla Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of scientists and engineers working in the field of solar energy.
Diwakar Award recognises organisations & institutions that have been working for the benefit of differently-abled people and have maximised the use of solar energy in the host country.

Visvesvaraya Award: Japan for the Asia Pacific region and the Netherlands for Europe and Others region.

Pre-Independence Award to 1944 film Ram Shastri Discovered at FTII
A cleaning drive at India's premier film school Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has unexpectedly yielded a gem from history—an award certificate conferred on Ram Shastri, one of the first biopics produced in the country 76 years ago.
The pre-Independence award would now be showcased at the Prabhat Museum, according to FTII officials.
Ram Shastri, in 1944, was no less than a sensation as it swept one film award after another.
According to a person aware of the development, an award certificate presented to the Prabhat Film Company for Ram Shastri in 1944 was recently found in FTII's Prabhat Studio at Pune.
