National Water Awards

The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu has presented the National Water Awards (NWAs) for 2019. This is the second edition of the award. Among the states category, Tamil Nadu bagged the Best State Award, followed by Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
The award ceremony has been organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation are from 11 & 12 November 2020 through the virtual platform.
The NWA awards are given to motivate the individuals/organizations to adopt the best usage practices in the field of water resources conservation and management and create awareness among the people about the importance of water.

Ahimsa Award for Kenya-based Teacher

Kenya-based teacher Peter Tabichi, who was awarded the $1-million Global Teacher Prize last year, has been given the 2020 Ahimsa Award by the Institute of Jainology in London.Tabichi is a maths and physics teacher from Pwani village in the poverty-stricken region of Nakuru in Kenya.
The Institute of Jainlology (IOJ) represents 32 UK-based Jain organisations in government and inter-religious affairs and this year's award was announced at the 18th Jain All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Ahimsa Day meeting last month.
The award celebrates the Jain tenets of Ahimsa or non-violence and compassion.

Elsa Wins People's Choice Award

Kenya's internet comedian Elsa Majimbo was named winner of African Social Star category at the 2020 People's Choice Awards event.
It is America's biggest award shows and celebrates the top stars in fashion and entertainment with fans voting to decide the winners.
The 19 year-old comedian, who is based in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, rose to popularity in March during the coronavirus restrictions in her country. Her short comedic videos drew a worldwide audience and attracted interviews by top media houses in the US and Europe.

S. Hareesh Bags 2020 JCB Prize for Literature

'Moustache' by S. Hareesh, translated from the Malayalam by Jayasree Kalathil, was announced the winner of the Rs. 25-lakh JCB Prize for Literature.
The book, which is the author's debut novel, is a contemporary classic mixing magic, myth and metaphor into a tale of far-reaching resonance.
It is the second debut novel as well as the second Malayalam translation to win the award.
The book was selected by a panel of four judges "writer and translator Aruni Kashyap, professor, cultural theorist and author Tejaswini Niranjana, playwright, and director Ramu Ramanathan, and Head of the Arts & Culture portfolio at Tata Trusts Deepika Sorabjee."

Kerala Tourism Wins Award for Exemplary Activities during Covid- 19

Kerala Tourism was bestowed the coveted 'Highly Commended' Award by World Travel Mart London, as a recognition for its remarkable activities aimed at promoting Responsible Tourism (RT) during the challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic.
Kerala's Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission received this recognition in the category of 'Meaningful Connections.'
The RT Mission received the award for its innovative work on 'Wok at Home Videos' and storytelling audio and video series produced and presented by various Mission units in the state during the pandemic that has posed multiple challenges to the tourism sector.

Startups Led by Women Win COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge

Startups led by 6 women have won COVID-19 Shri Shakti Challenge launched in April 2020, organised by MyGov in collaboration with UN Women.
The main objective is to support, encourage and involve women-led startups to come up with innovative solutions which can help in the fight against COVID19 or solve problems that impact a large number of women.
The jury selected the top 3 winners, and in view of the high quality of solutions presented decided 3 additional entries as promising solutions.
They announced reward of Rs. 5 lakh for the top 3 winners, UN Women was generous enough to agree to reward Rs. 2 lakh each to the 3 startups chosen for their promising solutions.

India's Ahmed Kamal among top 2% Scientists in World

Jamia Hamdard Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahmed Kamal has been named among top 2% scientists globally in the subject-wise analysis conducted by a team of scientists at Stanford University USA which was led by Dr. John PA Ioannidis. The analyses used citations from Scopus with data assessing scientists for career-long citation impact up until the end of 2019 and for citation impact during the single calendar year.
Prof. Ahmed is also ranked among the top 0.10% Scientists in India with 537 papers publication and with a worldwide subject rank of 83 globally and 2nd in India in the subject of Medicinal and Biomolecular Chemistry.
Stanford University scientists have created a database of over 100,000 top scientists of the world on the basis of standardized citation indicators such as information on citations, H-index, co-authorship, and a composite indicator.
