Day-long Centenary Celebrations of Bihar Assembly Building Slated for Feb. 7

The centenary year celebration of the Bihar Legislative Assembly building will begin on February 7 at the Central Hall. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the function, which will also feature a session for members on the topic "Role of legislators in a democracy".
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, it will be just a day-long session marking 100 years of the first session of the Bihar and Orissa Provincial Legislative Council held under the presidency of Sir Walter Maude on February 7, 1921 and addressed by then Governor Lord SP Sinha.
The present-day legislature has its genesis in the December 12, 1911 decision of British emperor George V regarding the creation of a separate province combining Bihar and Orissa with Patna as its headquarters, and it was notified on March 22, 1912. Later, an independent building and secretariat for the Provincial Legislative Council was built in 1920.

Meghalaya Selected for Special Award for Information Technology Applications in Elections

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya was selected for a Special Award for Information Technology applications in Elections by the Election Commission of India (ECI), in the National Best Electoral Practices Awards-2020.
President Ram Nath Kovind virtually conferred the award to Meghalaya CEO F.R. Kharkongor at the National Voters' Day Award function held in New Delhi today, a statement from the CEO's office informed.
The award recognises the sustained and consistent IT application efforts in electoral activities being made by the Office of the CEO in the entire Enrolment to Elections (E2E) process and for leveraging technology for the benefit of all categories of voters, both general and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Kushner, Berkowitz Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for Israel Deals

Former White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and his deputy, Avi Berkowitz, were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in negotiating four normalization deals between Israel and Arab nations known as the "Abraham Accords."
Nominating the pair of former deputies to then-President Donald Trump was American attorney Alan Dershowitz, who was eligible to do so in his capacity as a professor emeritus of Harvard Law School.
Kushner, who is Trump's son-in-law, and Berkowitz, who was the Middle East envoy, were key figures in negotiating deals between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.

Indian among 20 Finalists for Commonwealth Youth Awards

Indian young leader Alina Alam is among 20 extraordinary young individuals from 18 countries who have been announced as finalists for this year's Commonwealth Youth Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding Commonwealth young people whose projects are transforming lives in their communities and helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
More than 1,000 entries from 43 Commonwealth countries were received last year. The finalists were selected across each of the award's regional categories following a rigorous judging process.
This year, the awards have expanded to include five regional categories: Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and Canada, and the Pacific.

Uttarakhand's Republic Day Tableau Bags 3rd Spot, Maiden Award for Hill-state

Uttarakhand's tableau, that showcased a replica of the Kedarnath Temple, has secured a prize in the Republic Day Parade.
Uttarakhand's tableau Kedarkhand bagged the third prize in the celebrations. The award was received by K.S. Chauhan, representative of the state government and leader of the team that took the tableau to New Delhi. This is the state's maiden award at the Republic Day celebrations in the national capital.
The theme of the tableau was the main symbols that represent the religious legacy and biodiversity of the Himalayan state. The tableau called 'Kedarkhand' which was displayed in the parade focussed on the Kedarnath shrine. The tableau also displayed the state animal-- musk deer, state bird-- monal pheasant and state flower-- the Brahmakamal.
The Ram Temple tableau of Uttar Pradesh that was on display during the Republic Day 2021 has bagged the first prize among all tableaux. The theme of Uttar Pradesh's tableau was 'Ayodhya: Cultural Heritage of Uttar Pradesh'.
