World Habitat Day

World Animal Day

World Animal Day is an international day celebrated annually on October 4 to raise awareness about animal rights and welfare. This day serves as a reminder of our responsibility towards animals and how we can contribute to improving their lives. From pets to wildlife, the day focuses on showing compassion for all living beings.
World Animal Day was originated by cynologist Heinrich Zimmermann. He organised the first World Animal Day on March 24, 1925, at the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany. Over 5,000 people attended this first event. The activity was originally scheduled for October 4, to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. However, the venue was not available on that day. The event was then moved to October 4 for the first time in 1929.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti 2024 marks the 120th birth anniversary of India's second Prime Minister, celebrated on October 2. Known for his integrity, simplicity, and leadership, Shastri played a pivotal role during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 and coined the slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan." His contributions to India's freedom struggle and focus on self-reliance made him an enduring symbol of patriotism. In 2024, India will remember and honour his legacy, celebrating his values of humility and service to the nation.

International Day of Non-Violence

The United Nations observes the International Day of Non-Violence annually on October 2, coinciding with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the revered leader of India's independence movement and a pioneering figure in the philosophy of non-violent resistance. This observance was established through the General Assembly resolution A/RES/61/271 on June 15, 2007, with the support of an impressive 140 co-sponsors.
The day serves two primary purposes:
To disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness
To reaffirm the universal relevance of non-violence principles
When introducing the resolution, India's Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma, emphasised the universal respect for Gandhi and the enduring relevance of his philosophy.
