Indonesian Independence Day

Independence Day is a national holiday in Indonesia commemorating the anniversary of the Indonesia's Proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945. It was made a national holiday by then-President Sukarno in 1953.
Ceremonies and festive events are held throughout the country to celebrate this national day, including flag hoistings, local games and neighbourhood competitions, patriotic and cultural parades. Discounts are offered by participating shopping centres or businesses.
On this day, all Indonesian national televisions broadcast the National Independence Day Ceremony live from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
Televisions also often air Indonesian patriotic songs, nationalistic-themed films, advertisements, and talk shows.

National Tribal Festival In Leh To Showcase Ladakh

The first outreach in Ladakh after Article 370 was rendered a dead letter is being cited as a step to bring Ladakh's potential into the mainstream & create business opportunities for tribal produce and products both in Ladakh and outside.
The event, called the Aadi Mahotsav, is being organised by the ministry of tribal affairs.
Home minister Amit Shah has sent a special message to the ministry expressing happiness that the festival was being held in Leh.
The festival would showcase folk dance, skills, art and craft along with herbal medicines from tribal region.
The event would help popularise tribal specialities and create opportunities to economically strengthen tribal communities.
J&K governor Satya Pal Malik and tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda will inaugurate the nine-day festival .
While Aadi Mahotsav was planned in Leh before the defanging of Article 370, the government sees the festival as a means to reach out to locals who have felt neglected for decades and have welcomed UT status.

The Radcliffe Line Declared As Border

On 17th August 1947 the Radcliffe Line was declared as the boundary between India and Pakistan, following the Partition of India.
The line is named after Sir Cyril Radcliffe who was commissioned to equitably divide 4,50,000 km sq of territory with 88 million people.

Bennington Battle Day

Bennington Battle Day is a state holiday unique to Vermont, commemorating the American victory over British forces at the Battle of Bennington during the American Revolutionary War in 1777.
The holiday's date is fixed, occurring on August 16 every year.
In Bennington, there is a battle re-enactment put on by the local history foundation.
The Battle of Bennington took place in New York, but is so named because the British were headed for a cache of weapons and munitions stored where the Bennington Battle Monument now stands in present-day Old Bennington, Vermont

Guj's Anand To Host India's First Crocodile Fest For Kids

'Crocs & ladders', 'mugger, mugger, tara inda laav' – these are some of the fun games through which nearly 135 children of primary schools in lush green Charotar belt will learn to live in harmony with the otherwise scary crocodiles.
The games will be part of India's first 'Children croc fest' to be held at Malataj village, 20 km from Anand, on August 20, 2019 where children of class VI to IX from 11 villages whose wetlands have a healthy population of crocodiles will be taught to become future custodians of the reptiles.
Charotar region comprising Anand and Kheda districts is home to nearly 272 reptiles with Malataj having 40 crocodiles in a single lake.
From Busch Wildlife Sanctuary at Florida to Australia, croc fests have become an annual feature in many countries.
But most of them act as a platform for researchers, scientists and reptile lovers to raise funds to conduct further research on the reptiles.

Victory over Japan Day

Victory over Japan Day (also known as V-J Day, Victory in the Pacific Day, or V-P Day) is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end.
The term has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan's surrender was made – to the afternoon of August 15, 1945, in Japan.
August 15 is the official V-J Day for the UK.

Independence Day of India is a National Festival, celebrated every year on 15th of August. It is a day of great significance for the people of India. On this day in 1947, India got freedom from the British rule after long years of slavery.

Independence Day in India was fervently celebrated all throughout the nation. This year too, the celebrations were remarkable as India commemorated its 73rd Independence Day, which was very special in more than one ways:
Panchayat Heads of Bhartiya Janata Party in J&K hoisted the Tricolor in their houses.
President Ramnath Kovind and three service chiefs paid tribute to the war heroes at National War Memorial.
Chhattisgarh set a new world record by unfurling world's longest Tri-Colour flag of about 4.5 km length on 11th of August 2019 supported by a chain of thousands of people in Raipur.
Lieutenant colonel and Indian Cricket Player Mahendra Singh Dhoni unfurled Indian Nation Flag in Leh on 73rd Independence Day of India.
Wing-commander Abhinandan Varthaman was awarded Veer Chakra on 73rd Independence Day.
Twitter launched an emoji of Ashok Chakra on Wednesday (14th August) celebrating 73rd Independence Day of India. This emoji will be live till 18th august and in several languages which are English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and Oriya.
Prime Minister also announced an investment of Rs. 100 Trillion for the infrastructure development in rural India.

National Day Of Mourning (Bangladesh)

National Mourning Day is a public holiday in Bangladesh on August 15th.
It commemorates the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the 'Father of the Nation' on this day in 1975.

14 August- Youm-e-Azadi (Pakistan Independence Day)

Independence Day observed annually on 14 August, is a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign state following the end of the British Raj in 1947.
Pakistan came into existence as a result of the Pakistan Movement, which aimed for the creation of an independent Muslim state in the north-western regions of South Asia via partition.
The movement was led by the All-India Muslim League under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The event was brought forth by the Indian Independence Act 1947 under which the British Raj gave independence to the Dominion of Pakistan which comprised West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

Rural Innovators Conclave At NIRDPR

National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) is all set to host the 3rd edition of Rural Innovators Startup Conclave (RISC) on 27-28th September 2019 at the Institute campus in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.
The two-day unique conclave will serve as a platform to showcase a wide array of budding entrepreneurs, rural innovators and aspirant startups to demonstrate their design ideas, innovations, technologies, pitch, and get an opportunity to receive learning and mentoring support.
Being introduced in the memory of late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, RISC-2019 seeks to provide a platform to innovators and entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations and connect them with potential funding and network support.
The themes of the conclave are Agriculture & Allied Activities, Green Energy Solution, Waste to Wealth, Health & Elderly Care, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Sustainable Housing, and Sustainable Livelihood.
The best innovations and startups identified will be awarded cash prizes of one lakh rupees for startups and fifty thousand rupees for innovators, besides a fellowship for one-year to participate in tailor-made workshops on themes such as design, packaging, marketing, to be organized by NIRDPR.

International Youth Day - 12th August

International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12th. It is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.
IYD was designated by the United Nations in 1999
There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world.
This is the largest youth population ever. However, more than half of all children and adolescents aged 6-14 lack basic reading and maths skills, despite the fact that the majority of them are attending school.
This global learning crisis threatens to severely hamper progress towards the SDGs.
- 2019 Theme: "Transforming education"
- This year's theme highlights efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.
- Rooted in Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all" – International Youth Day 2019 will examine how Governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education so that it becomes a powerful tool to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
