Uttarakhand Day

Every year on November 9, the Uttarakhand Day is celebrated. It is also called as Uttarakhand Divas or Uttarakhand State Foundation Day.
The first demand for a separate state of Uttarakhand arose in 1897. In 1994, the demand for a separate state took full form that led to a mass movement resulting in the formation of the Uttarakhand state in 2000.
It is known as the "Land of Gods" or "Dev Bhumi". It was named 'Uttaranchal' during its foundation. Later, it was renamed to Uttarakhand in 2007. The capital of the state is Dehradun. The High Court of the state is located in Nainital.

National Legal Services Day

The National Legal Services Day is celebrated on 9th November to spread awareness for ensuring reasonable fair and justice procedure for all citizens.
National Legal Services Day (NLSD) was first started by Supreme Court of India in 1995 to provide help and support to poor and weaker sections of the society.
Free legal services are provided in matters before Civil, Criminal and Revenue Courts, Tribunals or any other authority exercising judicial or quasi judicial functions.
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 which came into force on 9th November, 1995 to establish a nationwide uniform network for providing free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society.

National Cancer Awareness Day

National Cancer Awareness Day, in India, is observed on 7th November every year. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. In 2018, approximately 18 million cases were there globally, of which, 1.5 million were in India alone. In 2018, there were around 0.8 million cancer deaths in India against 9.5 million globally. By 2040, the number of new cases is estimated to be double in India.
National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced by the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September 2014. Therefore in 2014, the day was celebrated for the first time and focuses on the early detection and cure of cancer.
In 1975, the Indian government had initiated the National Cancer Control Programme to provide cancer treatment facilities in the country. In 1984-85, the programmed aimed at prevention and early detection of the disease.

PM Modi Holds Virtual Summit with Italian Counterpart

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte discussed wide-ranging issues pertaining to the bilateral ties, and ways to deal with adverse impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his opening remarks at the virtual bilateral summit with the Italian leader, Modi said that it is clear that the COVID-19 epidemic will remain a watershed in history just like the Second World War.
A key country for India in Europe, Italy is the fifth largest trading partner of India in the European Union and both sides are further keen to expand the economic engagement in a range of areas.
Italy has been seeking two-way investment in a wide range of areas including green and circular economy, energy, health and pharma, food processing, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing given the high degree of complementarities between the two economies.

International Virtual Election Visitors Programme for Foreign Election Management Bodies

Election Commission of India organised a three-day International Virtual Election Visitors Programme for Foreign Election Management Bodies and Organizations in the context of the ongoing Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections.
In the past, the poll body had organized International Election Visitor Programmes in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, elections for a few State Assemblies in February-March 2017 and Lok Sabha Elections last year.
The Commission said, Bihar has an electorate of over 72 million, one of the largest in the world to vote so far amid the COVID-19 pandemic and it provides an opportunity to share the best practices and experience of the conduct of the poll process during the pandemic period.

Ganga Utsav 2020

On November 2, 2020, the Ganga Utsav was begun virtually. The festival continued till November 4, 2020. The Ganga Task Force as a part of celebration conducted afforestation drives with NCC cadets.
The Ganga Utsav is being organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga celebrating the 12th anniversary of declaring River Ganges as National river. The event was organised jointly by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict is an international day observed annually on November 6.
The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict was established on November 5, 2001 by the United Nations General Assembly, during Kofi Atta Annan's tenure as Secretary-General.

World Tsunami Awareness Day

In December 2015, the UN General Assembly designated 5th November as World Tsunami Awareness Day, calling on countries, international bodies and civil society to raise tsunami awareness and share innovative approaches to risk reduction.
World Tsunami Awareness Day was the brainchild of Japan, which due to its repeated, bitter experience has over the years built up major expertise in areas such as tsunami early warning, public action and building back better after a disaster to reduce future impacts.
UN Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) facilitates the observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day in collaboration with the rest of the United Nations system.

Melbourne Cup Day

Melbourne Cup Day is Australia's best known horse racing event held on the first Tuesday of November every year. It is an annual public holiday in the state of Victoria. This event is popularly dubbed as "the race that stops the nation".
Melbourne Cup Day has been observed in Australia since the first race was held at the Flemington Racecourse in Victoria in 1861.
The event features races, including the handicap race which is run by about 20 thoroughbreds for a couple million Australian dollars.
The story of Phar Lap, a legendary New Zealand thoroughbred who won the Melbourne Cup in 1930 and was nicknamed "Australia's wonder horse", was made into a movie.
