Constitution Day of India

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 19th November 2015 notified the decision of Government of India to celebrate the 26th November every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote Constitution values among citizens.
Constitution Day, also known as 'Samvidhan Divas' is celebrated in our country on 26th November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.
The Constitution Day is celebrated as a mark of tribute to India's first Law Minister BR Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in drafting the Indian Constitution.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The United Nations General Assembly designated 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
The theme for International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women this year is "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!" The focus is on bridging the funding gaps to ensure essential services for the survivors of violence during the ongoing pandemic.

India International Cherry Blossom Festival Cancelled

Every year the Cherry Blossom Festival is hosted by Meghalaya in the starting of November. This year the festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19. It is the only Cherry festival being conducted in India.
The India International Cherry Blossom Festival is organised by the Government of Meghalaya every year. The festival hosts live music, stalls showcasing the cuisine, beauty pageants, etc.
Cherry Blossom Festival is a national festival of Michigan. It is celebrated in Japan as well.
India is the 26th largest producer of cherry in the world. The top three producers of cherry are Turkey, USA and Iran. Cherry in India was introduced from Europe before India's independence. On the other hand, the commercial sour cherry was introduced from the United States of America. The other varieties of cherry were introduced from British Columbia.

India Will Now Host G20 Summit in 2023

India will host the G20 summit in 2023 and not in 2022, with a postponement of one year. The development was confirmed by sources both in Saudi Arabia and Delhi that India will host the summit of the grouping of the 20 biggest economies in 2023.
It has been decided on the basis of consultations and mutual convenience that India will be hosting in 2023 after Italy and Indonesia.
This will be the first such summit of the grouping in India since its formation after the 2008 financial crisis.
Italy and India had swapped the year for hosting G20 summit. In Asia, South Korea hosted G20 in 2010, followed by Turkey in 2015 and China in 2016 and next will be Indonesia.

World Fisheries Day

Every year, the World Fisheries Day is celebrated on November 21.
According to the United Nations, more than two-thirds of the world fisheries are overfished. Therefore, it is important to celebrate the day to create awareness about sustainable fishing.
The World Fisheries Day is to be celebrated under a theme every year and the theme for 2020 is 'Social Responsibility in the fisheries value chain'.
Small scale fisheries employ more than 90% of people employed in fisheries. Around 65% of fish caught from inland fisheries are from low-income food deficit countries. More than 25% of world dietary protein is provided by the fish. The total fish consumption in the world is 100 million tonnes. Therefore, it is important to focus on changing the way the world manages global fisheries in order to ensure sustainable fish stocks.
For the first time, the Department of Fisheries operating under the Ministry of Fisheries is celebrating World Fisheries Day. The Department is to confer best performing states in Fisheries award on World Fisheries Day. Assam has won the award among Hilly and North East States. The best performing state award among inland states is to be provided to Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
