World Bamboo Day

World Bamboo Day is observed on September 18 in order to raise awareness about the conservation of this extremely useful plant. Conceptualised by the World Bamboo Organisation (WBO), this day also promotes the bamboo industry by highlighting its concerns.
World Bamboo Organisation declared the day officially at the 8th World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok in 2009. The date was conceptualized thoroughly by Kamlesh Salam who is the former President of the WBO.

World Patient Safety Day

World Patient Safety Day is observed every year on September 17 to create awareness about different safety measures that should be taken to ensure patient safety. The day is celebrated to create global awareness about patient safety, increase or enhance public engagement in patient safety, and create action plans to overcome the issues of patient harm.
World Patient Safety Day was established in May 2019 when the 72nd World Health Assembly.
The theme for World Patient Safety Day 2023 is 'Engaging patients for patient safety', in recognition of the crucial role patients, families and caregivers play in the safety of health care.

World Ozone Day

International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (informally and simply called World Ozone Day) is celebrated on September 16 designed by the United Nations General Assembly.
The history of World Ozone Day is very eminent. A resolution was initiated and accepted in the Vienna Convention to protect the Ozone Layer on 22 March, 1985. This resolution has been initiated after discovering a hole through the Ozone Layer. With the adoption of the resolution, the Montreal Protocol on Substances which exhausts the Ozone Layer was implemented on September 16, 1987. In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed September 16 as World Ozone Day.
Every year World Ozone Day signifies a theme to fulfil it with dignity. This time the theme for World Ozone Day 2023 theme is 'Montreal Protocol: Fixing the Ozone layer and reducing climate change'.

International Red Panda Day

Every year, International Red Panda Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in September — September 16 in 2023 — to spread awareness regarding yet another species that is near extinction.
The day was launched by the Red Panda Network in 2010, and the first International Red Panda Day was celebrated in September that very year (2010). Since then, the need to continue honouring the day has only increased due to global warming and climate change.

World Lymphoma Awareness Day

World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WLAD) is an annual event observed on September 15. It is dedicated to increasing awareness about lymphoma, a group of blood cancers that affect the lymphatic system, a crucial part of our immune system. Lymphomas come in various forms, with Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma being the two main types.
Since its launch in 2004, WLAD has made its mark internationally.

International Day of Democracy

International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 every year to uphold and honour the values of democracy which is one of the most popular forms of government in the world.
The day was established after a resolution was passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2007, encouraging governments to strengthen and consolidate democracy.
Since it was first observed in 2008, a number of parliamentary events have been held worldwide, including photo competitions, workshops for children and televised debates on this day.
The theme for the International Day of Democracy 2023 is 'Empowering the next generation'.

National Engineer's Day (India)

National Engineers' Day in India is celebrated on September 15 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of the greatest engineers of India. He was born on September 15, 1861, and is widely regarded as a pioneering engineer and statesman who made significant contributions to the development of India. Visvesvaraya was a civil engineer, statesman, and philanthropist who made significant contributions to the development of the country. He is credited with designing and building several iconic structures, including the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam, the Mysore Palace, and the Bangalore Water Supply Scheme.
The government first declared September 15 as National Engineers' Day in 1968. The day is celebrated by engineers across India to honour Visvesvaraya's legacy and to recognize the contributions of all engineers to society.
The theme for National Engineers' Day in 2023 is 'Engineering for a Sustainable Future.'

Hindi Diwas

Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year in India.
The history of Hindi Diwas dates back to the early days of the Indian independence movement. In 1918, a group of Hindi scholars and activists formed the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan (Hindi Literary Conference) to promote the use of Hindi as a national language. The Sammelan played a key role in the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India.
On September 14, 1949 the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi as the official language of the newly independent nation. This decision was taken to promote and develop Hindi as the lingua franca of India and to unite the diverse linguistic and cultural regions of the country.
