World Post Day

World Post Day, which is celebrated annually on October 9, reminds us about the importance of traditional postal services in the ever-evolving world.
World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October. The event was declared by the 1969 Universal Postal Congress in Tokyo, Japan as a means to mark the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) creation in 1874.
The theme for World Post Day 2023 is 'Together for Trust: Collaborating for a safe and connected future'.

Indian Air Force Day

October 8 is celebrated as Indian Air Force Day because on this day, the Air Force in India was officially raised in 1932 as the supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. The first operational squadron came into being in April 1933. After participation in World War II, the Air Force in India came to be called the Royal Indian Air Force in the mid 1940s.
In 1950, after the republic came into being it became the Indian Air Force. From six officers and 19 Hawai Sepoys back in 1933, the Air Force now is the fourth largest in the world.
The Indian Air Force celebrated its 91st anniversary in 2023.
In 2023 Indian Air Force (IAF) Day parade was held at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh in line with the government choosing to hold major defence events outside the national capital.

National Wildlife Week

The National Wildlife Week is celebrated from October 2 to 8 every year in India. This week aims at protecting and preserving India's flora and fauna.
National Wildlife Week in India has a storied history that dates back to 1952 when the Indian Board of Wildlife first conceptualized the idea. Originally observed as Wildlife Day in 1955, it evolved into a week-long celebration in 1957, gaining significance as a platform to highlight the long-term objectives of safeguarding the country's precious wildlife.
This year's (2023) theme, 'Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation', reflects the collaborative efforts required to protect and preserve the nation's rich biodiversity.

World Cotton Day

The World Cotton day is celebrated on October 7 as a global celebration of cotton and its stakeholders, from field to fabric and beyond.
The first World Cotton Day was proposed by the World Trade Organization on October 7, 2019, by the Cotton Four, four sub-Saharan African cotton producers Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali, collectively known as the Cotton Four (WTO).The Cotton-4 countries` initiative to organise World Cotton Day was welcomed by the WTO on October 7, 2019. Together with the secretariats of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Cotton Advisory Committee, and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the WTO Secretariat organised the event (UNCTAD). The initiative offers assistance to the "Cotton-4″ nations, which are Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali, and other cotton-producing countries in Africa, to develop cotton by-products and its markets.
The theme for World Cotton Day 2023 is 'Making Cotton Fair and Sustainable for All, from Farm to Fashion'.

World Cerebral Palsy Day

On October 6 of every year, World Cerebral Palsy Day is observed, bringing together individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), their families, and advocacy organizations to champion equal rights, accessibility, and opportunities on par with those available to everyone else.
In 2012, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance announced World Cerebral Palsy Day to be celebrated on October 6. This was done with the intention of raising awareness about the disorder and finding ways to ensure that people with cerebral palsy have equal rights, access and opportunities like the rest of the world.
The first World Cerebral Palsy Day campaign was called 'Change My World in 1 Minute'. The project sought ideas from the global community of people with CP for technologies and products that needed inventing - that had the potential to 'change the world' for people living with Cerebral Palsy.
Over time, more organisations joined the movement to support research, studies, and innovations aimed at enhancing the lives of Cerebral Palsy patients, regardless of their location, culture, or economic status.

World Smile Day

World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October each year and this year. In 2023 it was celebrated on October 6.
Initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester in Massachusetts, who is best known for creating the iconic smiley face symbol in 1963, World Smile Day was created by him in 1999 as a way to encourage people to do acts of kindness and spread happiness by simply smiling.

World Teachers' Day

World Teachers' Day, observed annually on October 5, is a global celebration dedicated to honouring the invaluable contributions of teachers to society.
In 1966, UNESCO and the International Labour Organization (ILO) joined forces to convene the Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers in Paris.
The conference led to the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, a seminal document that delineates the rights and responsibilities of teachers, as well as standards for their preparation, recruitment, employment, and working conditions.
World Teachers' Day was inaugurated on October 5, 1994.
Since then, it has grown into a globally recognized annual event that honours teachers and their contributions to education.
The theme for World Teachers' Day 2023 is 'The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage'. It aims to reduce the shortage in number of teachers and increase their strength globally.
