Rolls-Royce Opens Largest Global Capability and Innovation Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru

  • Rolls-Royce, a global pioneer power systems company specialising in aerospace and defence engines, in september 2025 launched its Global Capability and Innovation Centre (GCC) in the Bengaluru, set to became the company's largest in the world.
  • Bengaluru ranks among the world's top three aerospace cities for attracting foreign investments.
  • Large and Medium Scale Industries Minister M B Patil, who inaugurated the facility at Manyata Embassy Business Park, commended the British engineering company's long-standing commitment to Karnataka and India's aerospace industries.

India to Form Tri-Services Education Corps, Establish Joint Military Stations

  • In a major stride toward modernising and integrating the Indian Armed Forces, a series of critical decisions announced at the conclusion of the Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC) 2025.
  • Among the most notable  are, the merging of the education branches of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force to form a single Tri-Services Education Corps.
  • The formation of three new Joint Military Stations. These reforms are part of a broader vision to make the Indian military more unified, efficient, and future-ready, in line with the directives of the Prime Minister and Defence Minister.

Indian Defence Service of Engineers Celebrates 76th Raising Day

  • The Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE), an organised Group 'A' cadre under the Ministry of Defence (MoD), celebrated its 76th Raising Day in September 2025 at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt.
  • Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh was the Chief Guest at the event. In his address, he commended the IDSE cadre officers for their role in strengthening national defence preparedness through world-class infrastructure.
  • He urged them to stay ready to deal with emerging challenges in view of the evolving security scenario, emphasising the need to embrace new technologies in line with changing times.
  • The Defence Secretary's address was followed by a cultural event and dance performances by artists from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. Senior civilian and military officials from MoD and Army HQs attended the event.
  • The IDSE was formally established on September 17, 1949, marking a historic milestone in India's defence engineering landscape.
  • The officers of this cadre, posted at military stations across the country, are responsible for the construction and maintenance of defence infrastructure ranging from married accommodations, technical and administrative buildings to airfields, hangars, naval jetties, hospitals and specialised facilities for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and DRDO.

Multinational Exercise Pacific Reach 2025

  • Indian Navy's latest indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel (DSV), INS Nistar made its maiden port call at Changi, Singapore in September 2025.
  • The ship functioning under the Command and Control of the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet will be participating in the multinational Exercise Pacific Reach 2025 (XPR 25) commenced September 2025.
  • Exercise Pacific Reach 2025, being hosted by Singapore seen participation of more than 40 nations as active participants or as observers.
  • The exercise will mainly be conducted in two phases viz. harbour and sea phase.
  • The week-long harbour phase will involve in-depth discussions on submarine rescue systems, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE), medical symposium and cross deck visits between the participating nations.
  • The Sea phase of the exercise would witness INS Nistar and SRU(E) engaging in multiple intervention and rescue operations with participating assets in South China Sea.

PM Modi Opens 16th Armed Forces Conference in Kolkata

  • Prime Minister inaugurated the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference in Kolkata. Held once in two years, this conference was the apex-level brainstorming forum of the Armed Forces that brought together the nation's top civilian and military leadership to exchange views and lay the groundwork for the future development of India's military preparedness.
  • The theme of the Conference was 'Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future', in line with the ongoing modernisation and transformation of the Armed Forces.

US, South Korea, Japan Launch Freedom Edge Military Exercise

  • In September 2025, the United States, South Korea, and Japan kicked off their joint air and naval exercise "Freedom Edge" near South Korea's Jeju Island.
  • The large-scale drill aimed at boosting trilateral defense cooperation against North Korea's advancing nuclear and missile threats. While the allies emphasise deterrence, Pyongyang has denounced the move as a provocation.

Western Command 79th Raising Day

  • Western Command of the Indian Army celebrated its 79th Raising Day at Chandimandir in the backdrop of 60 years of victory achieved in Indo-Pak War of 1965. 
  • Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Western, paid homage to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath on behalf of GOC-in-C, Western Command at the Veer Smriti War Memorial.
  • The solemn ceremony was a tribute to the supreme sacrifice of soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation. 
  • Western Command was raised on September 15, 1947 amidst the upheaval of Partition. Initially, established as Delhi and East Punjab Command, it was responsible for the defence of Delhi and Punjab regions.
  • On January 20, 1948, it was renamed Western Command and took charge of operations in Jammu & Kashmir.
  • In its glorious journey, Western Command's warriors have displayed unmatched valour, earning 11 Param Vir Chakras, 01 Ashok Chakra and 143 Maha Vir Chakras, among numerous other gallantry awards.

Workshop on Human-Centred Design (HCD) in Defence

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) hosted India's first-ever Strategic Workshop on Human-Centred Design (HCD) in Defence.
  • The event was organised under the aegis of the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIACOE) and the Department of Design, IIT-Kanpur.
  • This initiative marked the first structured, national-level effort to integrate human-centred design principles into the defence innovation ecosystem in India.
  • The workshop brought together defence personnel, industry leaders, and academic experts to address current challenges, explore new opportunities, and develop a strategic roadmap for establishing a dedicated Human-Centred Design vertical at DIACOE, IIT Kanpur.
  • The two-day workshop included expert talks, panel discussions, and interactive group-based brainstorming sessions.

India Flags Off First All-Women Tri-Service Sailing Voyage

  • In a historic first, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in September 2025 flagged off 'Samudra Pradakshina', the world's first all-women tri-service circumnavigation sailing expedition, from the Gateway of India in Mumbai.
  • The mission brings together women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force and represents a powerful symbol of nari shakti, joint military cooperation, and India's strides towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
  • The expedition, led by 10 women officers, will last nine months and aims to circumnavigate the globe aboard the IASV Triveni, a 50-foot indigenously-built Indian Army Sailing Vessel.
  • The sailing route will follow an easterly course, covering nearly 26,000 nautical miles.

Prime Minister Inaugurates Combined Commanders' Conference 2025 in Kolkata

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference. He inaugurated the conference at the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army at Vijay Durg, the erstwhile Fort William.
  • The Combined Commanders' Conference is the apex brainstorming forum of the armed forces, bringing together the nation's top civil and military leadership to exchange views at the conceptual and strategic levels.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also arrived in the city to attend the conference.
  • The theme for this year's conference was 'Year of Reforms - Transforming for the Future'.
