First Medium Range Missile Regiment raised in Eastern Command
In a significant boost to Indian Army's Air Defence and Capability development, the first Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) Regiment was raised in the Eastern Command.
The Regiment has been equipped with MRSAM Weapon System indigenously developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The MRSAM weapon system, which is also called the 'Abhra' weapon system, is a state-of-the art medium range air defence weapon system jointly developed by the DRDO and the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) with active participation from Indian public and private defence industry partners including MSMEs.
The Eastern Command is one of the six operational commands of the Indian Army. It is headquartered in Fort William in the city of Kolkata in the state of West Bengal. Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita is the current GOC-in-C of Eastern Command.

India, Sri Lanka Agree to Upscale Military Drills
India and Sri Lanka agreed to increase the complexity of bilateral military exercises. The decision was taken at the seventh annual defence dialogue co-chaired by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and his Sri Lankan counterpart General Kamal Gunaratne.
The ongoing defence cooperation between the two countries was reviewed, with both sides agreeing to increase the complexity of bilateral exercises. In the context of training, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to avail maximum benefits from each other's experience and capacities.

BEL Inks MoU with ADA for Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft Programme
Bharat Electronics signed an MoU with Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), DRDO, for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, during the Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru.
The AMCA is a fifth generation, multi-role, all-weather fighter aircraft designed with high survivability and stealth capability.
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) was established under the Department of Defence Research and Development (DR&D), Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India, at Bangalore, in 1984 to oversee the development of the nation's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme.
The primary objective of ADA is the design and development of LCA to meet the Air Staff Requirements (ASR) specified by the Indian Air Force, and subsequently, the design and development of carrier borne naval variant and advance version of LCA (Mk1A, Mk2), Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), Twin Engine Deck Based Fighter (TEDBF) Aircraft, etc.

INS Sumedha in Abu Dhabi to Participate in IDEX and NAVDEX
Indian Naval Ship Sumedha reached Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to participate in Naval Defence Exhibition – NAVDEX 23 and International Defence Exhibition – IDEX 23. The ship's participation in two leading regional naval and defence exhibitions showcased the strengths of India's indigenous ship building and underscore the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.
INS Sumedha is the third ship of the indigenously built Saryu class Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels and was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2014. The ship is fitted with an impressive array of weapons and sensors, can carry an integral helicopter and boasts of long endurance.

India, Uzbekistan 4th Joint Military Exercise 'DUSTLIK'
As part of a military-to-military exchange program between the Indian Army and Uzbekistan Army, the fourth edition of biennial training Exercise DUSTLIK (2023) started on February 20 and will conclude on March 5, 2023 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
The Indian contingent is being represented by the 14th Battalion, The GARHWAL RIFLES, part of Western Command in this bilateral exercise. The Uzbekistan Army is being represented by troops of the North Western Military District of Uzbekistan Army.
This joint exercise is aimed at enhancing military capability to undertake multi-domain operations in a Sub Conventional scenario under United Nations Mandate.
South Africa Commences Joint Military Exercise with Russia-China
South Africa started a joint military exercise with Russia and China that some countries say it amounts to an endorsement of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The US has also criticised the 10-day naval drills.
But South Africa's government says it remains neutral regarding the conflict, and that it routinely hosts similar drills with other countries, including France and the US.
The Mosi II naval exercises are taking place in the Indian Ocean, off the South African coast. The South African National Defence Force says 350 members of its armed forces will take part.
Russia announced sent its Admiral Gorshkov warship, which carries Zircon hypersonic missiles. These fly at nine times the speed of sound and have a range of 1,000 km (620 miles).
