Naval Commanders' Conference Begins Aboard INS Vikrant

The first edition of the Naval Commanders' Conference of 2023 commenced. The Conference serves as a platform to discuss important security issues at the military-strategic level as well as to interact with senior government functionaries through an institutionalised forum.
The first phase of the Commanders' Conference is being held at sea, and for the first-time, onboard India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Naval Commanders onboard INS Vikrant on the opening day. Chief of Defence Staff and Chiefs of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force also interacted with the Naval Commanders during the conference.

Rashmi Shukla is Director-General of Sashastra Seema Bal

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Rashmi Shukla was appointed as the Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). SSB is the border-guarding force deployed along Nepal and Bhutan border. Rashmi Shukla, a 1988 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, was posted with the Central Reserve Police (CRPF). She was heading the State Intelligence Department in Maharashtra Police when the phones of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Nationalist Congress Party leader Eknath Khadse were allegedly tapped in 2019.

Govt. Approves Contract with L&T for Acquisition of 3 Cadet Training Ships

The Union Cabinet accorded approval to sign a contract with engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the acquisition of three cadet training ships at an overall cost of Rs. 3,108.09 crore. The delivery of ships is scheduled to commence from 2026.
These ships will cater to the training of officer cadets, including women, at sea after their basic training to meet the future requirements of the Indian Navy.
The ships would also provide training to cadets from friendly countries with an aim to strengthen diplomatic relations. The ships can also be deployed for evacuation of people and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).
The ships will be indigenously designed, developed and constructed at L&T shipyard in Kattupalli, Chennai.

Lt Gen M. V. Suchindra Kumar Takes over as Vice Chief of Army

Lt Gen M. V. Suchindra Kumar took charge as the Vice Chief of Army Staff.
The general officer took over the appointment from Lt Gen B. S. Raju who took over the reins of Jaipur-based Sapta Shakti Command.
Prior to taking over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Kumar was tenanting the appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) at Army HQ.
An alumnus of Sainik School, Bijapur and the National Defence Academy, the general officer was commissioned into 1 Assam Regiment in June 1985.
He has commanded 59 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (Assam), an infantry brigade and an infantry division on the Line of Control (LoC), and the highly active White Knight Corps in the Northern Command.

IAF to Participate in Multi-national Exercise 'Cobra Warrior' in UK

Indian Air Force (IAF) will participate in multilateral air exercise 'Exercise Cobra Warrior' at the RAF's Waddington Air Force Base in the UK from March 6 to 24,.
This year (2023), the IAF is participating in the exercise with five Mirage 2000 fighters, two C-17 Globemaster III and an IL-78 mid air refueller aircraft. The aim of the exercise is to participate in diverse fighter aircraft engagements and learn from the best practices of various Air Forces.
An Indian Air Force contingent comprising 145 Air Warriors departed from the Air Force Station in Jamnagar for the UK to participate in the exercise, where the RAF and the IAF will be joined by contingents from Finland, Sweden, South Africa, the US, and Singapore.

India's Indigenous LCA Tejas in UAE to Take Part in its First-ever Foreign Air Exercise

The indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas started in a multi-lateral air exercise in the United Arab Emirates. The IAF is taking part in the exercise with five LCAs and two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
An IAF contingent consisting of 110 air warriors arrived at the Al Dhafra air base in UAE to take part in Exercise Desert Flag VIII.
The exercise is scheduled from February 27 to March 17.
Exercise Desert Flag is a multilateral air exercise in which air forces from the UAE, France, Kuwait, Australia, the UK, Bahrain, Morocco, Spain, the Republic of Korea, and the US are participating.
This is the first occasion when the LCA Tejas is participating in an international flying exercise outside India. The aim of the exercise is to participate in diverse fighter engagements and learn from the best practices of various air forces.

Lt Gen R. S. Reen Takes over as Director General Quality Assurance

Lt Gen R. S. Reen took over as Director General Quality Assurance.
A 1986-batch officer, Lt Gen Reen is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The Officer had completed his BE (Electrical) from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, Specialisation in Radio Engineering and post-graduation in Communication Engineering from MC EME, Secunderabad. He was a senior faculty at the Defence Institute of Quality Assurance, Bengaluru.
In addition, the Officer is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He has done certification in Reliability Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur and is a Qualified Lead Auditor in Quality Management System & Integrated Management System from Bureau Veritas, Bengaluru.
The Officer has headed a Senior Quality Assurance Estt., Brig at Headquarters, Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) and was Controller (Missile System) in Secunderabad. The Officer headed the DQA (L) as Additional Director General (Electronics) at HQ DGQA, New Delhi.
