Indian Navy Launches Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge

  • Boosting the 'Make in India' initiative, Indian Navy's Captain Prashant Saxena AWPS (Mbi) launched Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, Yard 125 (LSAM 15). The Barge was launched at M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd in Thane.
  • The ACTCM Barge is equipped with auxiliary systems developed by indigenous manufacturers, making it stand true to the 'Make in India' resolve of the Ministry of Defence.
  • The availability of ACTCM Barges will help Indian Navy fulfil its operational commitments by easing the transportation, embarkation, and discharge of supplies and ammunition onto the Navy ships at outer harbours and alongside jetties.

Defence Ministry, Larsen & Toubro Sign Contract for Modular Bridges

  • In a major boost to indigenisation of defence equipment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', Ministry of Defence approved the proposal for the indigenous manufacture of 41 sets of modular bridges for the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army.
  • These game-changing bridges have been designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and shall be produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as a DRDO-nominated production agency. The contract for the procurement of modular bridges was signed with L&T at an estimated cost of over Rs. 2,585 crore.

Pakistan Navy to Host 50 Nations in Maritime Exercises

  • Pakistan's navy said that it will host 50 countries at maritime exercises involving ships, aircraft and special operation forces from Feb. 10-14.
  • Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami commented on the importance of the exercises in light of piracy, terrorism, narcotics and arms trafficking, and climate change.
  • As per reports, only seven countries of the 110 nations invited have bothered to send ships or submarines.

CRPF to Hire Psychologist for VIP Security Wing

  • The CRPF, which is mainly deployed for dealing with issues pertaining to internal security, has a special VIP Security (VS) wing in its establishment that has a strength of over 6,000 personnel and it currently guards more than 110 VVIPs, including prominent ones like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, among others.
  • The CRPF issued an advertisement to engage a clinical psychologist to be based at a camp in Greater Noida near Delhi, which also serves as the garrison for its VIP security unit.
  • According to the terms of engagement issued by the CRPF, the candidate should essentially hold a Master's degree in clinical psychology or applied psychology from a recognised Indian or foreign university.

IIT Mandi Develops Technology that Make Stealth Vehicles Less Visible to Radar

  • In a major breakthrough that can have far-reaching consequences for the defence establishments, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi created an artificial structure or material that can evade detection of stealth vehicles and make less visible to the radar.
  • According to ITT Mandi, this material can absorb a wide range of radar frequencies or signals, irrespective of the direction from which the radar signal hits the target.

Kerala Police Operation AAG

  • The Kerala Police arrested 2,507 gangsters under Operation AAG. It was launched throughout the state. The operation aimed on arresting the fugitives listed under the Kerala anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA). The primary targets in the list were those who returned to the state after being deported.
  • Operation AAG is a 360-degree action against anti-social elements.
