Rashmi Shukla Becomes Maharashtra's First Woman Director General of Police

  • In a landmark decision, the Maharashtra government appointed Rashmi Shukla, a distinguished 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the Director General of Police (DGP). This appointment is groundbreaking as Ms. Shukla becomes the first woman to hold this prestigious position in the state.
  • Ms. Shukla's journey to the top police post has been both impressive and tumultuous. She takes over the reins from Rajnish Seth, her batchmate from the 1988 IPS cadre, who recently retired and moved on to become the chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Vice Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi Takes over as Vice Chief of Naval Staff

  • Vice Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi took charge as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.
  • Prior to his current appointment, Vice Admiral Tripathi served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command.
  • An alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Tripathi was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985.
  • Specialising in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he has an illustrious career serving on frontline warships, including stints as Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer.

Vivek Srivastava Named DG of Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Vivek Srivastava, a seasoned 1989-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, as the Director General of Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Vivek Srivastava has a distinguished career as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, with extensive experience spanning over three decades. Having entered the service in the year 1989, he has served in various capacities, showcasing leadership skills and dedication to public service. Srivastava is known for his commitment to upholding law and order and has consistently demonstrated excellence in his roles within the police force.

Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari Assumes Charge of Eastern Command

  • Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.
  • Tiwari assumed office after paying homage to the brave hearts at Vijay Smarak Memorial followed by Guard of Honour at the Eastern Command Headquarters. Prior to this, he was General Officer Commanding of Uttar Bharat Area- Bareilly.
  • The Eastern Command is one of the six operational commands in the Indian Army and manages a 1,346 kilometre stretch of the Line of Actual Control, including areas in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

INS Guldar to be Decommissioned

  • On December 30, 2023, the Kumbhir-class tank landing ship INS Guldar celebrated its 38th and final anniversary before being decommissioned in January 2024.
  • This was a bittersweet milestone proclaimed by the Andaman & Nicobar Command. Guldar was put into service in 1985 in the GdaƄsk Shipyard in Poland, and throughout the course of several decades of devoted duty, it has left a lasting legacy of bravery and humanitarian assistance.
  • It played a significant role in Operation Leech in 1987, which successfully cut off the LTTE's maritime routes and hindered their activities.
  • Throughout its remarkable history, Guldar has taken part in a great deal of drills and operations, contributing significantly to the strengthening of India's coastal defence capabilities.

INS Vikrant Gets New Captain

  • In a spectacular ceremony performed on board INS Vikrant, Captain Vidhyadhar Harke, VSM, who had the honour of leading the powerful vessel from his first trip to operational readiness, gave up command to Captain Birendra S. Bains, VSM.
  • Sailors in divisions stood obediently in formation, the spirit of the Navy evident in their immaculate uniforms and steadfast focus. Captain Harke, adorned with his illustrious service awards, addressed the crew for the final time.
  • The ceremony for the change of leadership represented more than just a legal handover of power; it was also a symbolic passing of the torch, representing the everlasting commitment and spirit that had guided the Vikrant's voyage.
  • The carrier will continue to improve under Captain Bains' direction, incorporate cutting-edge technology, and be prepared to protect India's maritime interests.

Vice Admiral V. Srinivas Takes over as Chief of Southern Naval Command

  • Vice Admiral V. Srinivas took charge as the 30th Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOCINC) of the Southern Naval Command in a ceremonial parade at the naval base.
  • He succeeded Vice Admiral M. A. Hampiholi, who retired after a distinguished four-decade career in the Indian Navy.
  • A graduate of Defence Services Staff college and Naval War college, Vice Admiral Srinivas is an expert in nuclear safety and has operational experience in Operations Pawan, Vijay, and Parakram. His past roles include Flag Officer Submarines, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area, and Inspector General Nuclear Safety. Recognising his contributions, he was awarded the Nau Sena Medal (NM) in 2009 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2021.
