2024 Military Strength Rankings: US Most Powerful, India at 4th Position

  • India maintained its position as the fourth strongest military globally, with the United States named the most powerful followed by Russia and China, according to the Global Firepower rankings.
  • According to GFP's assessment, India holds a Power Index (PwrIndx) score of 0.1023. (A score of 0.0000 is considered 'perfect'). The US holds a Power Index score of 0.0699, Russia 0.0702 and China 0. 0706.
  • A total of 145 countries were assessed on the basis of their global military prowess for the Global Firepower's 2024 Military Strength Rankings.
  • India's neighbour Pakistan was ranked ninth and Italy took the tenth position. South Korea, the United Kingdom, Japan and Turkey also feature in the top 10 list.

Vice Admiral A. N. Pramod Appointed Director General Naval Operations

  • Vice Admiral A. N. Pramod assumed the pivotal role of Director General Naval Operations (DGNO). A distinguished alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course at Naval Academy, Goa, Vice Admiral Pramod was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1990.
  • The Vice Admiral boasts a CAT 'A' Sea King Air Operations Officer and Communication & Electronics Warfare Specialist background. His extensive career includes crucial afloat appointments such as Fleet Operations Officer, Western Fleet, and command roles for IN ships Abhay, Shardul, and Satpura. Notably, he commanded the Naval Air Station, Utkrosh, at Port Blair.
  • His leadership extends to roles such as Deputy Commandant, INA, ACNS (Air) at Naval Headquarters, and Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area.

Indian Army Conducts Firepower Demonstration 'Exercise Topchi' at Devlali in Nashik

  • The Indian Army conducted the firepower demonstration 'Exercise Topchi' at Devlali in Maharashtra's Nashik.
  • As part of Atmanirbhar Bharat, indigenously manufactured artillery equipment such as the K-9 Vajra, SP gun system, Dhanush, 105 mm Indian field gun (IFG) and light field gun (LFG) systems and Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers were showcased in the event.
  • This edition of 'Exrcise Topchi' showcased the integrated employment of firepower and surveillance assets to include guns, mortars, rockets, drones, and aviation asset.

Coast Guards of India, Japan Hold Joint Exercises

  • The Coast Guards of India and Japan held a joint exercise of responding in real-time, rescuing the crew of a distressed vessel off the coast of Chennai. The joint exercise code-named 'Sahyog Kaijin' on the Bay of Bengal saw the ICGS Shaurya and JCGS Yashima, equipped with advanced equipment, rush swiftly to rescue the crew of MT Matsyadristi and MV Anveshika involved in a simulated collision that resulted in a fire onboard the MT Matsyadristi as well as a crude oil slick.
  • The joint exercise encompassed maritime law enforcement, search and rescue and pollution response at sea. The joint exercise was reviewed by Inspector General Donny Michael, Commander of Coast Guard Region (East).

Rear Admiral Upal Kundu Assumes Charge as Chief of Staff at Southern Naval Command

  • Rear Admiral Upal Kundu assumed charge as Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command (SNC).
  • An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1991. He is an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) specialist and commanded guided missile frigate INS Trikand, missile corvette INS Kuthar, erstwhile INS Akshay, and ashore units — INS Tanaji and INS Kadamba.
