Gregg Clark is Analytical Coach of Indian Men's Hockey Team

South African Olympian Gregg Clark has been appointed as the new analytical coach of the Indian men's hockey team till the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Clark, who will join the national camp this month, had coached the Indian junior men's team in 2013-2014 when it won the Sultan of Johor Cup and also participated at the 2013 FIH Junior World Cup in New Delhi.
He was associated with the Canadian men's team as Assistant Coach from 2017-2020.
Clark in his 11-year long career, competed in 250 international matches, appearing in two World Cups (1994 - Sydney and 2002 - Kuala Lumpur) and two Olympic Games (1996 - Atlanta and 2004 - Athens).

Sanjay Kapoor Elected All India Chess Federation President

Sanjay Kapoor was elected president of All India Chess Federation (AICF) while Bharat Singh Chauhan retained the secretary's post.
Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, defeated incumbent PR Venketrama Raja in a close contest. Kapoor received 33 votes as against 31 of Raja. Chauhan beat Ravindra Dongre 35-29. Apart from the president, secretary and treasurer, six vice-presidents and six joint secretaries were also elected.

Teimour Radjabov Wins Airthings Masters

Teimour Radjabov maintained his Teimour Radjabov maintained his calm and outsmarted Levon Aronian to win the $200,000 Airthings Masters online rapid chess final with a game to spare.
Having lost the first set, a desperate Aronian blew a great chance to win the opening game, lost the second before the drawn third game settled the title.
The triumph was worth $60,000 for Radjabov who became the first player to book his spot in the season-finale (in San Francisco in December) of the $1.5 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.

BCI Wants Three-year Practice must for Aspiring Judicial Officers

The Bar Council of India (BCI) said that it will file an application before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to make minimum three-year practice at the Bar mandatory to become a judicial officer.
The BCI, the country's apex lawyers' body, said that judicial officers not having practical experience as advocates were mostly found to be incapable and inept in handling matters.
At present, fresh law graduates are being allowed to sit for the Judicial Service Examinations without having any practical experience at the Bar. The BCI, along with all state Bar councils, was strongly in favour of minimum three-year experience as an advocate to be prescribed for being considered eligible to appear in a judicial service exam.

India's 67th Chess Grandmaster

Goa's 14-year-old Leon Mendonca has become India's 67th chess Grandmaster by winning the third and final norm at a tournament in Italy.
Mendonca, who achieved the feat at the age of 14 years, 9 months and 17 days, is the second Grandmaster from the coastal state.

ICC World Test Championship

India stayed in contention of playing the ICC World Test Championship final next year as they retained their second spot at year-end despite New Zealand beating Pakistan by 101 runs in the first Test at Mount Maunganui.
Australia lead the points table with 76.6 % (Percentage of points or PCT) while India are second with 72.2% following their victory in the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
New Zealand, meanwhile, cemented their position at third and moved a bit closer to India with 66.7%.
England (No. 4 with 60.8%), Pakistan (No. 5 with 34.6%) and South Africa (No. 6 with 28%) follow the top three.

BWF Bans Nikita Khakimov for 5 Years

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has imposed a 5-year ban on Russian shuttler Nikita Khakimov for charges of 'betting, wagering and irregular match results'. Khakimov was part of the Russian men's team that won the bronze medal at the 2020 European Team Championships.
The 32-year-old Khakimov was found to breach BWF's integrity regulations, including approaching a player and offering money to manipulate a match, betting on badminton games and deliberately destroying evidence of a corruption offence to conceal from the BWF.

Southee Takes 300th Wicket Test Wicket

Tim Southee became the third New Zealand bowler to capture 300 Test wickets as he dismissed two Pakistan batsmen to help push his side into a strong position.
Pakistan were 71-3, still 302 runs from their victory target of 373.
Southee joined Richard Hadlee (431) and Daniel Vettori (361).
